Hey! Let’s bring this series back. March was the last time I wrote one (there was a whiny one in April, ha).
- Our wedding anniversary! Thirteen years today!
- An anniversary/”we need a break from work” vrbo stay on Lake Michigan, including going to town for vegan goodies
- Maybe a trip to Guttenberg, but maybe not
- At least three long weekends
- A haircut
- Two manicures with Lorena
- Cooler temps
- Increasing my running mileage
- Getting the brickwork done on Dragonstone, and hopefully, the siding too! Edited to add; mason not available until October, womp
What are you excited about in September?
Happy anniversary!
What’s a “vrbo stay”?
Thanks!
We’re renting a place through VRBO – I think it stands for “Vacation Rental by Owner.” It’s similar to Airbnb.
Happy Anniversary Kim and Steven!!!
Thanks!
Happy anniversary!!
Three long weekends – wow! That is definitely something to be excited for! I assume one is for Labor Day. Are the other two ones you took PTO to make, or do you have other days off in September? I have a long weekend the 18th-20th, but that’s because we get a free day of PTO for our birthdays. I assume my birthday isn’t a federal holiday yet 😛 Though Rosh Hashanah does start on my birthday this year.
I am SO EXCITED for cooler temperatures! Did you see that they’re predicting lows in the 40s for next week?! Eep! That would be amazing! The running!!
Thanks!
I took PTO for one of the long weekends, and I get every other Friday off (I work an extra hour each day so that I do), so I have a four day weekend this weekend (Friday off + Labor Day), then a 3.5 day one (took 1.5 days of leave), then a 3 day one (Friday off). That is exciting you have two long weekends in Sept! I hope they make your birthday a federal holiday soon 🙂
YES! I did! I am so psyched! How has your running been?
To be honest, it’s been mostly nonexistent. I ran 12 miles in June, 9 in July, and 18 in August. A bit of a change from my marathon training summers, when that would be low weekly mileage, never mind monthly! It’s just been too hot, and I haven’t seen any reason why I should either suffer through miserable weather or drag myself out of bed before the crack of dawn to run for running’s sake. It was one thing when I had races to train for, but now that I don’t, most of my summer workouts were either YouTube videos or long bike rides (well, long for me. We usually aim for 15-20 miles on a weekend ride.). I’m hoping cooler weather will make running a lot more appealing–and I’m not too worried about it, because every time it has been nice enough to run, I’ve enjoyed being out there again. We have a step challenge at work this month, so I’m sure that will help!
Good for you for taking a step back! You are right that there is no reason to force yourself out of bed and in to the heat if you don’t want to and aren’t training for something! And I think that sounds like the perfect distance bike ride! Do you have some good places to ride around there?
Yes! There are actually a TON of interconnected trails/paths by us, so biking is a breeze. We don’t have to ride on the road at all, even to get in really long distances (yesterday we did 34 miles!) which is clutch for me. I have zero desire to share riding space with cars, and I’m sure we wouldn’t be biking nearly as much as we do if we had to – or if we had to drive a ways to find trails to bike.
Awesome! That is fantastic! And so much safer. I am not a huge fan of riding with traffic either, and when I’d do it here, I had to be really cautious about day of week and time of day.
34 miles! Wow!
Happy Anniversary! So glad for you two that you’ll be getting away – I think pretty much everyone needs a vacation as often as possible this year. Lovely wedding picture!
Thank you! Yes, I agree that everyone needs a vacation! Glad you are about to have one.
Thanks! <3
COOLER TEMPS. Again, how dare you. What r cooler tempz? It’s gonna be a HOT September for us poor Floridians. (Although, we should have a cool front at the end of the month – highs in the mid-80s. BREAK OUT THE BOOTS.)
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! I’m glad you guys are going to celebrate with a VRBO stay! Yayyy. And damn, do we all need a break from the work grind, sigh.
I mean, you KNOW what I’m excited for in September: MY MOVE! 8 days until I get my keys, but who’s counting? 😉
LOL! I am sorry!!! Hee hee. Will the 80s actually feel like a break?! I hope so!
Thank you! And yes, everyone needs a break. It’s so funny, at work this week they were reminding people to take their leave. I am like “You don’t have to remind me!!!!”
I am so excited for you!!!
Will this weekend away include vegan donuts? Are there any treats in particular that you’re excited about?
Let’s see…I’m excited to finish all the work for the big annual conference at the end of September. And to keep doing language classes!
It will, from a place we’ve gotten them before in MKE. We are excited to try some new vegan places in MKE that we haven’t before! Of course, I can’t think of the names of them right now, but probably burgers and similar foods.
Oh gosh! Yes! That will be here soon!
Happy Anniversary! What a cute picture! I am looking forward to your posts about your weekends away so I can have a vicarious vacation 😉
Thanks! I think it will be like my normal weekend recap (food) but will hopefully have some nice lake views!
