Ahh! I think this is the first summer EVER that I haven’t scratched a bug bite so much it’s turned in to a scab then scar!!! Go me!
We had less mosquitoes this summer, but the flies were relentless with biting me on the trails, and I’m so proud I left those bites alone. How did I do it? No idea. Ha. But since I’ve been a kid I’ve scratched my bites until they scarred and gah, my legs look horrible for it. I’m glad not to add to it this summer.
When we first toured our current home in August 2015 the mosquitoes were rampant. We pulled in to the driveway and I could see them flying in to the windows of the car, waiting for us. A swarm followed us as we ran in to the house. Our outside tour was very short because I was getting so badly attacked.
Insta post from a year ago, still true!
And yet we still really, really, REALLY wanted the house. The mosquitoes are bad on a normal day and horrendous when we have lots of rain, but bug spray (on the yard, not our bodies, ha – that does hardly anything for me, even the high percentage DEET stuff) helps. And it helps keeps things out of the house. Who knew living in the woods would be a constant battle with keeping the outside out? (<— probably everyone)
I have to say, while we were grilling outside last night, and these annoying flies and a few mosquitoes kept swarming us, I thought “the first frost can’t come fast enough!!!” (although as soon as it warms up again, all the bugs are back, sigh)
Troy and Declan went for a walk last night as said the mosquitos were terrible for them too. Must be the rain we had a couple of weeks ago. Yuck!
It’s their last big hurrah! Blah!
Yippee! Congratulations – sounds like mosquitoes have been absolutely miserable for you all these years. I will get bit but nothing horrible. My daughter is more like you, unfortunately. I’ve had friends who get their yards professionally sprayed for mosquitoes and I guess that helps? Any case, I’m glad you’ve escaped their wrath this summer.
Thank you, thank you π LOL! Sorry your daughter is a sufferer too!
We started having our yard sprayed in the summer of 2018 (I think?) and it helps BIG time! Steven started doing in the next year cause the guy retired or something. It’s a lot of work and I appreciate him doing it!
Oh wow, your house is super-cute. I can see why you fell in love with it… but oh man, I wouldn’t survive a day there. Mosquitos LOVE me (and leave Jon alone, for some mysterious reason). We haven’t had many mosquitos here this summer… probably because it was TOO hot even for them π
Thank you! And we are the same way – they love me but will rarely bite Steven.
Ha! It’s bad it’s been so hot there and so dry here but less mosquitoes was the one silver lining!
I’m not sure I’ve ever achieved this goal, huge congratulations! I don’t remember getting bitten much when I stayed at your house, but maybe I was mostly inside.
Do your bites stay small and itch or get really big? Does Steven have this problem too?
Hope you get some bug-free days soon.
I think they weren’t super bad yet since you were here in May… or maybe it was a dry here then too?
My bites swell and get super itchy. They don’t bother Steven. Do yours swell up too?
Ugh, mosquitoes are the bane of my existence. It’s one of the reasons I love having cats: no longer do I have to spray myself like crazy (and smell awful, lol) whenever I have to take the dog out. NO THANK YOU.
Have you heard of the Bug Bite Thing? https://www.bugbitething.com/. My friend SWEARS by it. You just zap your bite and it takes out all the venom that the mosquito injected, which is what makes the bite swell/itch. Might help!
Aww yes! Do the mosquitoes come up to your balcony at all?
I have! My sister got me one for my birthday and I need to remember to use it next time I get a bite! Thanks for the reminder!!!
