Can you find Apollo?
- A massage
- A trip to Guttenberg with Gina and family
- Seeing my family
- Brick work being done on Dragonstone
- Dad (maybe?) coming to help put up siding on Dragonstone
- Dragonstone cladding being completed!
What’s on your list?
Huh. I thought I was going to have a lot more to add to this list when I started this draft post. Ooops.
Here is the big thing I am nervous about in October – renewing my license. It expired in July, but I have until the end of October to renew it. I have been putting it off (which is so unlike me and makes me crazy anxious) because I have heard the lines are so long, and figured people who couldn’t go all spring should go before I attempt it. But it’s time. I only have to take the eye test and try to get my REAL ID, and I hope I can do it in one day! I will get there early and bring a book!
Ha, speaking of getting there early, have you ever waited in a long line to buy something? When
Star Wars: Episode I β The Phantom Menace came out, my parents let me miss school to wait in line to buy tickets for the Friday night showing. Some people were waiting overnight and said the theater let them in to watch The Matrix a few times. I Remember thinking, “What’s The Matrix?”
When Episode II came out, my dad won tickets to see it, and he let me and my sister miss school to go see it during the day. Hee hee.
I was in college and on summer break for Episode III so no school was missed! But! I am pretty sure we saw a midnight Thursday showing and I cried so much during the movie and was tired and exhausted the next day at work. Oops. I now only do midnight showings of The Room, ha.
I miss seeing movies. Someday!
Do you still only have until the end of October to renew your license? I think they just pushed the deadline back a week or two ago to Feb. 1, 2021 (!). I mean, obviously getting it done sooner rather than later would be good, but maybe something to look into if it’s making you nervous!
I went to update the name on my license on Aug. 1 when facilities reopened to the general public, and based on what I’ve gathered around the internet, my experience was the same as everyone else’s: going first thing in the morning is no bueno! I got there at like 7:45 a.m. (on a Saturday!) and the line stretched around the entire strip mall parking lot and doubled back on itself. It was INSANE. I’ve never seen anything like it outside of a concert. I bet the first people in line got there at 3 a.m. There were probably at least 150 in line. I didn’t even park – just turned around and went back home and complained about humanity. I ended up going back that same day at 12:30 p.m. (facility closes at 2 p.m.), and I was in and out in just over an hour. There were only I think 30ish people in front of me in line. I’ve heard lots of other people have had the same experience: everyone goes in the morning, because everyone thinks no one will go in the morning. The afternoon tends to be better!
I am pretty sure I do – I looked up that the extension is for people whose license expired Aug 1 – current. Mine expired July 31.
Oh gosh! Bobbi told me something similar today – that her daughter went midday and it went well. Geesh, maybe I should try that first. Thank you for sharing that! And I am glad you finally got yours! So is your last name finally correct on it?
Yes! Thank goodness. It was my #1 priority before we got really into the house-buying process, because the last thing I wanted was to not have any official ID with my new last name and then have to add all the house paperwork to the mile-long list of places I needed to change my name.
Oh true! Gah. Buying a house is already the hugest pita, you don’t need that too!
I just got back from the DMV! In and out in 35 mins. I spent more time in my car! Thanks for the tip!
Also I was just reading through the comments below mine – my family was discussing the Secretary of State/DMV process in our various states a month ago or so, and my dad said in Michigan you sign up for a time online with your cell phone number and they text you starting 30 minutes before your appointment to update you. If you can’t make it, they let you move yourself back in the virtual line. CAN YOU IMAGINE?! I was so jealous! Then I looked up Jesse White and how long he’s been in office and was like, “Oh, never mind. This is why we’re still living in the dark ages in Illinois.” Haha.
Gah, why can’t our state do that?!?! (LOL, but not really – you provided the answer. It blows our mind how his name is on EVERYTHING. What is the point of that?!)
How is it that they have not yet made it possible to make appointments for that kind of stuff??? I will keep my fingers crossed that you don’t have to wait too long…
They have in other states (my snis made an appt for hers in IA (but still had to wait forever)) but haven’t in IL as far as I know!
Oh man, I was going to ask why you couldn’t just make an appointment for your license renewal (but then saw your response to Amy’s comment!) That is CRAZY that you can’t make an appointment. Here in FL, we were able to do that BEFORE the pandemic. But the last time I had to renew my license, I was able to do it online, which I thought was weird. Next time, though, I want to go in because I need a new picture! I was 20 when my current picture was taken, lol.
Go early and bring a book! I guess that’s the best advice I can give, although you probably are already planning on that. π I always think it would be nice to have time to sit and read while waiting for an appointment but then when I’m there, I’m always like GET ME OUT OF HERE, lol, and reading doesn’t bring half the enjoyment I expect.
Yeah, it’s weird, right? Oh, Illinois. And I can’t renew online because I need to do the eye exam… can that be virtual? LOL. I am going to try this afternoon (I heard 2-4 is good, but probably not on a Friday) and yes, bring a book. I am like you though – I have a hard time reading in a place like that. I can’t block out the noise.
Ha! Isn’t it funny how our pics get so old on them?! You’d think they’d make you update it more often just for that! My work ID pic is from 2009 and I look like a BABY.
YESSS, “The Room” is the only midnight showing I can do now too (and even that’s a struggle). Our local movie theater in HS used to do midnight showings of random movies, and we would go ALL the time. I’m way too tired and old for that now!
I’m excited you’re almost done (for the year) with Dragonstone!
I renewed my license by mail, but I couldn’t do the REALid without going to DMV, so I guess I’ll just…wait for the pandemic to be over. Not that I’m flying and need one right now anyway. Blergh. Good for you getting it all done though (Spoiler alert, I’m reading these in reverse chronological order.)
It is SUCH a struggle! Especially since it actually starts close to 1:00 am!!! Yep, same. I need to be lying in bed at 9:00 π
Thank you! We are too! I can’t wait to see the brick. It’s going to be so strange to not see the Kimberly-Clark wrap anymore.
I am glad you could do it by mail! I totally would have had I had that option since I am also not traveling and have a passport and HSPD-12 credential ID for work. Too funny they said I had to come in for vision they (thankfully) did not make me take it. I hope it’s easy to get your REAL ID when you want to!
