Ahh! I think this is the first summer EVER that I haven’t scratched a bug bite so much it’s turned in to a scab then scar!!! Go me!

We had less mosquitoes this summer, but the flies were relentless with biting me on the trails, and I’m so proud I left those bites alone. How did I do it? No idea. Ha. But since I’ve been a kid I’ve scratched my bites until they scarred and gah, my legs look horrible for it. I’m glad not to add to it this summer.

When we first toured our current home in August 2015 the mosquitoes were rampant. We pulled in to the driveway and I could see them flying in to the windows of the car, waiting for us. A swarm followed us as we ran in to the house. Our outside tour was very short because I was getting so badly attacked.

Insta post from a year ago, still true!

And yet we still really, really, REALLY wanted the house. The mosquitoes are bad on a normal day and horrendous when we have lots of rain, but bug spray (on the yard, not our bodies, ha – that does hardly anything for me, even the high percentage DEET stuff) helps. And it helps keeps things out of the house. Who knew living in the woods would be a constant battle with keeping the outside out? (<— probably everyone)

I have to say, while we were grilling outside last night, and these annoying flies and a few mosquitoes kept swarming us, I thought “the first frost can’t come fast enough!!!” (although as soon as it warms up again, all the bugs are back, sigh)
