- I commissioned another Dailypurrr style drawing of the cats! (here’s a link to the other one)
This photo of Apollo in the “middle airplane seat” still cracks me up
- Has anyone been paying attention to the Social Security Tax Deferral? Participation is mandatory for federal employees who make less than a certain amount a pay period (me!). So the Social Security taxes I’d pay from September to December 2020 are being deferred to (predicted) January – April 2021. Which means more money in my paycheck now since they are not taking them out, but they’ll start taking them out again in January, and they’ll take out the taxes they didn’t take out now. No Social Security tax now, double tax in January – April. Fabulous. I wish I could opt out. Instead I am just putting what I should be paying in to savings. So much for stimulating the economy with that money.
- I got one of those selfie ring lights to use for my work calls. Let’s see how long I can stand it before I am blinded, or it burns my face.
- I finally looked up what “called an audible” means and I had NO idea it was a football reference. Ha!
- A contractor I work with uses the adjective “grand” in place of “great” and I kind of love that and want to start using it myself.
- I finished that puzzle! I moved the table closer to the couch to reduce the chance of puzzle butt.
You’re required to defer? What a load of crap. They’re doing it to make life easier by providing greater cash now. But people are just going to have to save it to make up for losing double later.
Yeah, federal employees that make less than a certain amount are automatically enrolled with no way to get out of it. And that is exactly the issue… it just doesn’t make sense. I don’t want the break now to pay double later. Just let me pay now.
omg the drawing of Apollo!! He looks so evil and vengeful!! Definitely a middle seat on an airplane look. That’s hilarious.
We haven’t received any communication about the social security tax deferral, though I also don’t remember when that was supposed to kick in? If it’s not until the end of September, I’ll have to watch that paycheck. I read an article in the Washington Post about it and I’m SO GLAD I did, because otherwise I would’ve been totally clueless about the entire thing–specifically the part about having to pay the taxes back next year (as the Post put it, with the government there is no free lunch!).
Right? So funny. We died laughing when we saw them like that last year! (it’s an older pic!)
I bet your company is not doing it? Hardly any private companies are, since it doesn’t make sense and there are no payback rules yet. But it would be good to watch for it. It was going to kick in Sept 1, I think? And yes, I had to have someone tell me to save the money. We got some emails about it last week but I did NOT get it until I was on a call and our top guy was like “I’d recommend putting that money in savings, folks.”
i LOVE that puzzle! And the picture and drawing of the cats are both grand! 😉
It was really fun! I just started one that is cats in yoga poses, and then I am borrowing some from Bobbi 🙂
Ha! Grand! Love it!
I’ve used “calling an audible” several times, usually when I was the organizer of our running group and I’d change up the route at the last minute (due to road construction, usually).
When I saw the news about the SSI deferral I was pissed. This is NO HELP to anyone and will hurt those who don’t force themselves to put all that money aside to make up for the extra deductions next year. I was relieved when I heard that my husband’s employer chose not to participate. Dodged a bullet with that one; sorry you are having to deal with it.
That’s funny you say that, because a running route change is literally the example that made me look it up!
I am pissed too. 🙁 I hope most people are smarter than me and thought right away to put it in savings – someone had to recommend that to me! And I am glad his employer is not doing it too. I’d be surprised if many are outside of those being forced to in federal?!
Fellow fed here, and I so wish we could opt out of the tax deferral *BS*…. I mean, it’s really not much else than a whole lot of unnecessary work for payroll and us.
Did they also list the Social Security Tax as a deduction, but still paid it out? My last paycheck was so confusing!
Let me know if that selfie ring light is any good… I was thinking about getting one, but haven’t bought one yet.
That’s really what it is! I need to look at my actual paystub and see how they listed it. I just saw how much more was in my account and put the difference in savings.
I will! So far it’s very hot even though it’s LED. I think I am going to put it above my monitor even though I know it won’t be as affective, but I am on some long calls and don’t want to get sweaty from it.
Ooh, I didn’t realize the selfie light would make you hot! That’s no good. Would be really uncomfortable during long meetings!
I haven’t heard about that tax deferral! Whaaaat. That is just SO messy and stupid and is not going to do very much to “stimulate” our economy. I’m sorry you have to deal with that headache!
Right? I don’t understand why it is. I might move it farther away and see if that’s better.
That is exactly how I feel about it too 🙁 It’s just DUMB.
