A few highlights from the weekend! My parents got here late Thursday night to celebrate my birthday on Friday, and we had a great time together! I’m extremely grateful for one-on-one time I get with them. There’s nothing like the undivided attention and interest from a parent.
Friday
- Sleeping in. (Ha, after going to bed at 12:30 and being up from 4:30-6:30. I’ll be glad to get back on a normal schedule this week.)
- Going on a walk with Dad.
- Redeeming my birthday Starbucks drink.
- El Famous for lunch.
- Opening presents.
- Bobbi stopping by to wish me a happy birthday.
- Grilled burgers and potatoes for dinner, followed by strawberry pie Steven made.
- Learning and playing the card game “Garbage” with Mom and Dad.
Saturday
- Sleeping in again! Steven and I are super exhausted from the river trip. It’ll probably take us all week to recover.
- It being our ten-year “in person” anniversary with Gina and Steve. Gina and I were blogger friends since 2006, and they were visiting Chicago on August 1, 2010. We went to the city to meet them and the rest is history!
- Picking out a new black blazer with Mom for my interview.
- Finally finding the Ben and Jerry’s Netflix & Chill’d Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert.
- Lunch with everyone (Steven and Dad worked on Dragonstone while Mom and I were out all day).
- Finding an antique shop and some garage sales for Mom. Not my thing but she loved it and I was just happy to spend time together!
- Pasta Alfredo for dinner.
- Garbage with Steven, Mom, and Dad. There were lots of laughs and accusations of cheating.
Sunday
- A bike ride with Dad.
- A yummy homemade breakfast.
- Hanging out and lunch on River Time.
- Taking way too long of a nap after Mom and Dad left. 4:40-6:45! The cats woke me up to feed them – otherwise I probably would have slept through the night!
Lowlights
- All the bug bites. Something happened in Illinois when we were gone that caused the mosquitoes to come out in full force and I’m a swollen mess from so many bites!
Sounds like such a special weekend! Glad you got the one-on-one time with your parents; I know that I always enjoy that as well, along with getting the entire family together. Your black blazer looks great on you! Having something fresh and new for a big event is always so nice.
It was! And yes, I do really love when we are all together, but it feels so special to have that undivided attention π
Thanks! I was feeling nervous about what to wear – all my nice blazers are too small and the ones that fit are too funky!
Aside from the mosquitos, it sounds like a fabulous birthday weekend!
Your new black blazer looks very professional – sending you lots of good vibes for Wednesday!
It really was!
Thanks! Please send them my way!
I’m so glad you had a lovely birthday weekend and one-on-one time with your parents! That’s always so special. π
I need more information about this Ben and Jerry’s Netflix & Chill’d.
I have to laugh at your “way too long a nap” comment because I’ve been trying to force myself to ONLY take two-hour naps. HA. I’m the queen of a four-hour nap if I don’t set an alarm, eeeks.
Thank you!
It’s peanut butter with sweet and salty pretzel swirl and fudge brownies! Good, but VERY salty!
LOL! Do you take them that late in the day though?! In the middle of the day, I could get away with two hours or something longer. Not that close to bedtime though!
Sounds like a such a wonderful birthday weekend! That strawberry pie looks AMAZING. That’s so nice that your parents were able to come and hang out with you guys all weekend. I think I’ve only seen my parents on my birthday once since moving to Chicago (though it was the time I ran on marathon on my birthday, so it’s not like we were just chilling and hanging out, haha), and it was really special to be able to spend that time with them π
It was really good! And I made some vanilla pudding to go with it!
Oh yes! I remember that year of the marathon! I am almost always with my family on my birthday since we are usually in Guttenberg, but we moved the trip up this year for RAGBRAI. My mom was sad she wouldn’t get to see me on my birthday so I told her she was welcome to come visit! π
Ooh, I haven’t heard of Garbage! Did you enjoy it, and can you play it with two people?
Do you have a date for your interview (in your new black blazer??)?
That strawberry pie looks amazing. Great job, Steven!!
I did, and you can! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKWvR-43Ukc It’s very simple! I guess there is a way to play where you yell “Garbage!” as you discard so the person can’t pick up your card but we didn’t play that way.
Yeah, Harrison’s birthday at 9 am!
I agree – great job, Steven!
