- I was selected for a vegan cake and we picked it up yesterday! The photo below shows what it looks like. YUM!

- Twice in the past week I’ve had people check my temperature (nail salon, doctor’s office) and both times it’s felt weird they haven’t told me what my temperature is. Ha.
- Ugh, speaking of going to the doctor, they did NOT give good instructions on any COVID-19 related precautions (it all worked out fine though). Days before the appointment, they asked me to change the location setting in their app to “always,” so they would know when I arrived. I figured that was part of the COVID-19 stuff and turned it on so they would see I arrived then tell me to come in or whatever. But my phone told me they looked at my location 30 times in 3 days before I even had the appointment, so yeah, I turned that off. They were just collecting data on me.
- I took a really good business writing and grammar class last week at work, and was reminded of how much I use the passive voice instead of the active voice. It’s something I need to work on.
- I am so excited about how my river gift turned out. I am gifting them today and can’t wait to show you all!
- I wish Facebook would quit showing me my friends’ random comments on stuff. I really don’t need to see their arguments with strangers online. I just don’t. I tell Facebook to “hide posts like this” but is there some other setting I need to turn on?!
YAYYYY! I’m so glad you were chosen for the vegan bakery. That cake looks BOMB. MMM!
You know, I haven’t had anyone take my temperature! Gosh, I still can’t get over what a weird time we’re living in. Temperature checks at the nail salon! (Not that I mind these, but just thinking about telling 2019 Stephany what 2020 looks like… she’d be flabbergasted!)
Ugh, passive vs active voice. I deal with that constantly as a professional writer. I’ve become a lot more mindful of it, but it sneaks in from time to time.
We ate part of it last night and it was delicious – may be the best cake I’ve ever had!
It is such a weird time. I had forgotten about the temperature check thing since I hadn’t had it happen to me yet, and like you, I don’t mind, but it was kind of a slap in the face reminder.
I think I do passive voice because it sounds more professional and formal at work, but not a good reason to use it!
So happy for you that you got your cake – it is perfectly festive and now I want a cake that has been rolled in sprinkles. 🙂
Funny, I’ve had my temperature checked several times when I’ve gone into the building for my doctor appointments but never thought to ask what it was. I’d say joke’s on them because my normal temperature is 97.6 so if I was 100 I’d be pretty sick, but at that point I think I would know and not go inside. Anyway, probably more than I needed to write on this, LOL.
There must be some setting to turn off on FB because I don’t see my friend’s random comments – or maybe it’s because I’ve either hidden or unfriended so many (what can I say, I get irritated and take probably more action than I should) that I only see my non-combative friend’s comments? Now you’ve got me wondering…
Your river gifts are so cool – can’t wait to see how everyone likes them. 🙂
It was delicious! I can’t wait to have more of it! I don’t know what I was thinking having a PB sandwich for breakfast – I should have had cake!
LOL! I think that is interesting! So your temp has always been lower? And good point – I don’t even know what range they would kick people out for? Or rather, refuse entry.
There has got to me! I unfollow a lot but I am still seeing people have these fights online with strangers, and meh, I don’t care.
Thanks! They loved them! Now I need to get a pic of all of us with them!
Holy cow, that cake!!! *a million heart-eyed emojis* That looks so delicious! I’ve already decided we’re ordering a fancy cake for my birthday, and was looking at options yesterday even though my birthday is still almost two full months away, haha. This looks like one of the ones I was eying! (Until I saw the chocolate fudge cake, that is. Of course, now I just want all the cakes haha.)
As a former editor, you would not believe how frequently people use passive voice. It’s especially common in formal/professional writing, because it’s a very easy way to avoid blame or responsibility (“Decisions were made to cut your pay” vs. “I made the decision to cut your pay”). When I was editing, I tried to eliminate all forms of the verb “to be” in everything I edited whenever possible. I felt it made the writing more engaging and interesting. As you can see by this comment, that goal does not extend to my day-to-day writing and communication 😛
It was amazing, I highly recommend this place! It may be the best cake I’ve ever had!!! I can’t wait to see what you pick out!
Yes! They mentioned that as a reason it’s used a lot professionally! That is a good idea to eliminate “to be”. And LOL – your comments are always engaging and interesting to me! <3
Yeah, there is a setting you can tweak in Facebook to hide all that garbage… it’s the Delete my Account button.
Ahh, that is why I couldn’t find it!
Finding a vegan cake that actually tastes good! I haven’t had any luck. But I also can’t have gluten so it is about impossible. I have my temp taken every day at work. I also have it taken when I went to the dentist office.
It’s gotta be out there somewhere, right – the perfect vegan GF cake?! I hope you find it!
Isn’t it weird to have it taken and not be told what it is? I think so!
