Our country is in turmoil and I’m upset and heartbroken like many of you, but I’m having conversations about it with friends and family offline, not here. This blog is mostly frivolous fluff, like this post about my weekend. I need to learn and listen, not comment on something I don’t understand here. (But that doesn’t mean you can’t reach out if you need someone to talk to – I am available – kim at kimhastheruns.com.)
A few highlights from the weekend!
Friday
- Feeling amazing on my run.
- Steven surprising me with donuts! I have been craving a vegan donut the entire time we’ve been on our stay-at-home order. He went to Craft Donuts + Coffee in West Dundee and got four donuts (Cookie Butter, Strawberry Frosted, Lemon Frosted, and Peanut Butter Frosted) and a cinnamon roll. What a sweetie! My snis had text us about donuts the day before and I was saying how how badly I wanted one, and Steven had already placed the order for these that morning. Aww!
- Hammock time.
- Date night at home – takeout and a movie. We’ve been doing this often toward the end of the week and I love it! We got Tacos el Norte for us and the neighbors and watched The Invisible Man. Steven and I were saying how the food was okay but not as good as El Famous and the neighbors texted us and said the same, ha! The movie was good. Super creepy. Normally I wouldn’t watch something like that at night since I get nightmares, but since we were watching it in the daylight and we don’t have shades, I couldn’t see the scary dark scenes that well anyway!
- The pineapple from our Woodman’s delivery being the best pineapple I’ve had all year. GAH it was SO GOOD.
- Attempting to disassemble a tiny B&BW hand sanitizer bottle to refill. I’ll try to make this story short. My snis has just told me she took apart hers to refill and Steven mentioned to me Friday he wanted to do the same so we tried to do it and couldn’t figure out how to get the lid off (you’re not meant to). He text my snis, then we were messing around with it and laughing, then my snis video called us to show us and we got it to work, but then Snis and I started laughing about some inside jokes, and I was laughing so hard I started to cry. It felt good to see her and laugh like that!
- A successful pants order. Steven needed new pants and when I went to order them it was impossible to find the old style he liked. And it’s not like you can try them on in stores. I guessed at a new style and they arrived and fit and look good. Success!
Saturday
- Getting my run in much earlier than planned (due to waking up with a headache and not being able to fall back asleep) and enjoying the cool temps and a book podcast.
- Cutting up a delicious watermelon (and eating it!).
- Taking my college friend’s Zumba class.
- Feeling better (from that stupid headache) in the late afternoon.
- A phone call with Mom.
Sunday
- Cleaning the windows. Steven sprayed the house (including all over the windows) for bugs on Saturday and it’s so satisfying to clean those streaks off!
- Grilling with Steven.
- Watching a few episodes of Space Force. It felt good to laugh at how stupid it is.
- Getting some cleaning done. (It really needed to happen, ha!)
- Pot pie for dinner.
Lowlights
- Scary unexpected news from a friend. Updated to add: they are fine now, phew!
- Waking up with a headache Saturday morning and being useless for a lot of Saturday because it hurt so much.
- Feeling extremely anxious Sunday morning about what’s going on in the country and about some personal things.
I’m sorry to hear about the scary news from a friend, I hope she’s ok! Those vegan donuts sound amazing. We were talking about getting a hammock for our yard too, you make it sound like a pretty good idea 🙂
Thank you! She is! I am going to edit that to add it in. Thanks for saying that 🙂
They were so good! The cookie butter one was the best 🙂
Yes! You should! I love ours! It’s the kind that has a stand.
+1 for Steven and those donuts.
-1 for not yummy tacos
+2 for yummy watermelon and pineapple
+5 for laughing and conversing with snister

7 total points for this post, well done.
Woot! 7 points?! Go me!!!!
LOL, you crack me up snis! Love you! xoxo
I’m glad your friend is ok! It’s so unsettling to get unexpected news. <3
I love the story about you laughing hysterically with your sister on the phone. Those moments are much-needed and so life-affirming!
Me too! I felt so upset and panicky about the situation!
Yes yes yes! I tell you, almost every day my snis and I have each other in stitches from chat. Steven is always like “what’s so funny?” but it never translates!
We spent two weeks at our daughter’s house recently; she and I played Animal Crossing on our Switches and laughed/cried so much our stomachs hurt. It was so good to laugh like that after weeks and weeks of mental unrest. Love that you had a similar moment with your sister – we need a release!
Aww, yes! You totally get it and I am glad you had that moment too. That release does feel so good!
Wow, that watermelon *does* look really good. Was it from a full-size one? I got a “personal”-sized watermelon last week, and it was enough for me to eat it for days, and some of it was too soft. (I like mine crispy and juicy. I think everyone does!) I like pineapple even more.
Why aren’t you supposed to re-fill the hand sanitizer bottle? Are you supposed to buy a new one instead? Having a good laugh about something so silly is definitely the best possible outcome of that situation.
It was from a full size one! I have better luck with them too. I ordered a small one for my grocery delivery today, and I wonder if it’ll be as good (if we even get it, ha).
You are supposed to buy a new one 😉 I normally would go to the store and buy a new one, but that is not something I want to do right now!
