In December I made a 2020 To Do List with 7 categories and 21 “To Dos.” I’ll post an update on it every three months. Here’s my progress thus far!
Note: bolded items have been updated with comments, bolded ✔ items have been completed, italicized ✔ items were completed in check-in #1. How’s that for confusing?!
You’d think I’d have made more progress with some of these goals, being on a stay-at-home order starting March 21st, shortly after my first update… but I haven’t. I think my lack of progress shows where my interests truly lie. And how lazy I am with some things!
Relationships
- ✔ Go on a trip with Steven to someplace new-to-us – completed! I was intending for this to be a trip for just us two, but I’m not sure that will happen this year, so let’s count Atlanta!
- Play with the cats more – err, I have been pretty lazy with committing to play time each day. Time to get back to this.
- Continue to remember everyone has different communication styles and preferences – and I don’t need to understand or agree with them to accept them. Something positive to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic is me getting over what I perceived as lack of communication and interest. People are who they are! Apparently it took a pandemic for me to chill out about that. Seeing someone post this in their Instagram story really helped me:
Home
- FINISH THE GARAGE! We’re getting so close to the completion of this phase! We need to have some landscaping done, brickwork done, and power brought over to the garage. And we need to pick out siding and install it! Then most of the 2020 work will be done. (I think?)
- Bring the Datsun home! We haven’t yet, but since the final concrete pour was done this week we can bring it home soon! Here is what the Datsun looks like – ours is the one in the back in the first photo below. Steven was really excited to drive by someone else with a Datsun so they pulled over to chat.
Parts Datsun and driveable Datsun
- Sort through items that have been in storage boxes in basement since we moved in in February 2016
Money
- Continue to put money in to savings – yep! I’ve been spending quite a bit less due to the stay-at-home order so I’ve put more money in savings.
- Spend less at Bath & Body Works and Starbucks – I ordered Bath & Body Works soap with a gift card but had to spend $9 on tax and shipping. I went to Starbucks five times in the past three months but used gift cards for my order. I did spend $55 on Starbucks giftcards for other people.
- Find a new affordable way to get custom 2×3 magnets – Nothing magnet worthy has happened to justify ordering magnets!
Fitness
- ✔ Run in a new-to-me state – I ran in Georgia, twice!
- Run a race with a friend – ha ha ha ha, might as well take this off the list! Or change it to “run with a friend.”
- Get back to making playlists for my classes – I haven’t taught since March 14th and put in my notice to quit my part time job, so this is not a “to do” anymore.
Beauty
- Find a lipstick that looks nice on me and wear it
- Get regular haircuts – was not able to due to COVID-19
- Learn to style my hair
Reading
- ✔ Read a Harry Potter book – completed! I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in February and enjoyed it! (Enough that I read the second book in March, the third book in April, and plan to continue the series. Although the length of book four has been a turnoff so far. And J.K. Rowling being an ass on social media as of late.)
- ✔ Read a Stephen King book – completed! I finished Sleeping Beauties on Thursday, March 26th.
- ✔ Read 50 books in 2020 – completed! – I completed my 50th book on Wednesday and upped my goal to 75 for the year!
Work
- Apply for the supervisor role – the listing was announced Wednesday and I am working on my resume (a government resume is more like an application, and is MANY pages). It’s due July 8th!
- Lean on my teams for support – Continuing to do this!
- Quit being so snarky and whiny – same update as last time – I’ve started a lot of snarky chats and deleted them. Go me! And I’ve been mindful to ask if someone is in the mood for a much-needed vent sesh before I start, and to also talk about positive things, too. New update – it feels incredibly draining when someone mostly reaches out to vent without a hello or asking if it’s okay first. Not always how I want to start my morning; it sometimes makes me really anxious.
Wow! Great job on your TODOs (Resolutions???? JK) so far this year. It feels like the pandemic was specifically designed to thwart some of these, like regular haircuts, what the heck.
Do you plan which ones you’re going to tackle at any given time, or do you check them off as the opportunity arises?
Buah ha ha. THEY ARE TO DOS!!!!! Ha. And yeah, regular haircuts and no class playlists. I totally should have used free time to try to learn to style my hair.
I just check them off as the opportunity comes up! I really suck at focusing on goals!
You’re doing great! COVID-19 has ruined a lot of people’s goals. One of mine is to get another tattoo but I’m not sure when I’ll feel comfortable being in a tattoo shop! Not anytime soon, that’s for sure!
Thanks 🙂
Gosh, yeah. I’m sure the shops are even cleaner than before, it just doesn’t seem like a high priority right now, right?
