We watch a lot of movies (and a TV show every day at lunch!) in our house, and closed captioning is on 100% of the time, so that I don’t ask Steven “what’d they say?!”… because that gets old pretty fast.

I also get so much more out of the story by having them on. Closed captions (compared to subtitles, which are dialogue only) include dialogue, musical cues, sound effects, and other relevant audio information. Have you ever watched a movie with closed captions on after seeing it in the theater and read dialogue there is no way in hell you’d ever have picked up? And it actually adds to the story? It’s amazing!!! I often leave the theater thinking “I can’t wait to watch that with CCs on.”

Are they on in your house? Take my poll below!

I was thinking about this because we borrowed The Princess Bride from Bobbi and watched it this week*. Folks! I don’t think I’d ever seen this! It’s really funny and clever! With one problem – the DVD only had subtitles in French and Spanish and I could not understand some of the jokes spoken in English. Womp. This happened with a movie we paid to rent a few weeks ago – no CCs available. I’ve become so dependent on them, I get a bit panicky when they’re not available (except in the theater).

*After realizing Mandy Patinkin was in it, we wanted to watch it

No post is complete without a photo so here’s a selfie I sent to my mom and snis last night to tell them the pineapple I bought at Aldi (for $1.49 each!) was so good I wanted to cry.

The one I cut up yesterday was so sweet we both thought it tasted like candy

We’ve been having some amazing fruit lately – especially pineapple, watermelon, and strawberries. We’re more likely to eat fruit when it tastes good (duh, ha ha) so I’ve been super grateful that is has been. We usually have sweet item after lunch and dinner and fruit has 90% replaced cookies/ice cream/chocolate/etc. I hope it continues to be this good!
