I’m pretty sure if you’re reading this you can relate to these first two COVID-19 thoughts of the week:

  • I’m not bummed about events getting canceled… I am bummed about losing the time I would have spent with people at those events.
  • I hate that the COVID-19 climate has made us naturally scrutinize every social media post we see. “How far are they from their house?” “Why are they out with friends?” “Why does their hair look freshly cut?” “Why do they look like they have a manicure?” “When is this photo from?!” I do NOT want to be thinking these things! It’s none of my business! But the thoughts are there. UGH.

Ahh, manicures. I miss them so much. I succumbed and ordered some new polish so I can paint them at home. I have polish, but much of it is old/unusable and needs to be thrown out.

Last manicure I got on March 5th. This is one of the colors I ordered – OPI’s Coral-ing Your Spirit Animal.

I miss my nail technician and hope she’s doing okay. I wish I had her contact info.

Last week I read Kenosha does not plan to open their public pools this summer. That was a strange sort of reality check for me. Like… wait… it’ll be summer, it’ll be hot, what will the kids do?! I loved going to the pool as a kid (and still love being in the water as an adult). I get why they will not be opening pools, but it was definitely a slap in the face from reality. (They also announced yesterday that Fourth of July fireworks are postponed to Labor Day weekend.)

One of my first thoughts when everyone started working from home was how forked we’d all be if the internet service providers/WiFi stopped working. And then it happened last week, and it was just as sucky as I thought it would be (for work – I can always use 4G LTE on my phone). Our service provider was having tower issues and even after they were “fixed” service has been spotty. Thankfully, I can hotspot when I need to work, but that doesn’t work well for video calls on the computer! I hope no one else is dealing with this!

I’ve had some crazy thoughts pop in to my head like “now would be a good time to adopt a cat!” Um, no, Kim, no it would not be. You do NOT need another pet. Funny thing though, I was talking to Rachel about that and right after our conversation this beautiful “stray” showed up on our deck…

This cat is so friendly. I hope that means they belong to someone on our street. I opened up the cat house in case they need a place to crash!

I was telling Anne and Xaarlin how I’ve not done a single burpee since we’ve been under our stay-at-home order, and they said I needed to add that to my list of COVID-19 Inspired Changes Worth Keeping. Ha! Ha ha ha.

I’m still learning how to use the grocery order app from the store (Woodman’s) that has the most of what we need (therefore, I order from them the most). Lessons learned:

  • It is NOT like the Walmart “Grocery” app where you can add things to your order after you place it. You cannot add things. You can remove things, and you used to be able to increase quantity (but you can’t anymore).
  • If something shows up as unavailable when I am placing the order and I pick a substitution, they just remove the entire thing from my order because it was unavailable to start. They do not use the substitution. F*ck. Now I know – just order the substitution. Derp.
  • Ha, this one is funny. They changed their delivery window availability from two weeks to three days. So you used to have to wait two weeks to receive an order (because the entire two weeks would be unavailable), but now only have to wait three days, yay! So I got my order ready, and was up at midnight to check the time slots on the newly added day and nothing was available. I kept checking each day and still all the time slots were “unavailable.” I mentioned this to Steven and he’s like “they need to fulfill all the orders that were placed when it was still a two week window! So the three day window is not actually active yet.” He’s so smart. The three day window was finally opened last weekend and I placed an order. Also, I now have dreams about being up to place my Woodman’s order. Sigh.
  • Have you seen headlines that with the meat shortages people will be buying more fake meats? So far we’ve still been able to get the frozen/refrigerated ones we use from stores! I think it would be great if more people try them – they are some really tasty options out there! Let me know if you want suggestions.

Speaking of food, a few weeks ago when I was cleaning the dining room I removed the leaf from the middle of the table. It’s not like we’re having guests over any time soon! And you know we eat all our meals on the couch. The dining room table is just a spot for the cats to jump on and run across when they are chasing each other across the house… and to sit to watch the wildlife.

Steven and I are shocked we haven’t gotten sick of cooking at home or reverted to making one of our laziest meals (something we call Cous Cous Caboose – our goal is to not make it ONCE during our stay-at-home order). When we were talking with friends about it Monday night, I realized it’s because cooking is not a total pita since it’s all we have to do each night. Ha. Since we have nothing else going on, cooking doesn’t feel like as big of a chore (to me, anyway). And the meal planning is making it easier, too! I have a funny meal planning story I will share on Friday…
