A few highlights from the weekend!

This was the weekend we went to Iowa for a late Christmas celebration with my family, and for Christina’s (snister’s) sons’ birthday party!
Friday
- Trying the Beyond Burger at Hardee’s on the way to Christina’s
- Seeing Christina and Will’s new house! We’d only seen a few photos, and it was exciting to tour it in person, and stay there!
- Spending time with Christina and her boys and Mom and Dad (repeat on Saturday and Sunday too)
- Loving on Dexter, Christina’s cat
- All the blind box toys Christina got me
Saturday
- Getting vegan donuts at Icon Donuts
- Two-on-one time with Mom at lunch
- Two-on-one time with Grandma Tiger
- Being goofy with Christina and Alyssa at Target
- Hanging out with my brothers and laughing at their antics!
Sunday
- Celebrating late Christmas with family
- Doing the cat sticker mosaic book Christina got me
Lowlights
- Driving through a snowstorm. Ugh. Iowa and Illinois had nasty winter weather on Friday. We bumped our trip departure time up, and only had to drive through the snowstorm for the last hour of the four and a half hour drive but that was still meh.
- The boys’ party being canceled. They had a stomach bug, so at first the party was moved from Saturday to Sunday due to that, and because of Saturday’s blizzard weather, then they had to cancel it in Sunday because they still didn’t feel well.
- Getting sick. Ugh, I woke up at 1:00 am Sunday with a very unhappy stomach. That was my first time having a stomach bug, and yeah, hopefully I don’t experience that again for a long time. Luckily I had lots of people taking care of me, and I felt well enough to drive home Monday, but Steven got it and didn’t feel great for the drive home. We’re both still feeling a meh and weak.
- Missing seeing a lot of family. I saw some family Saturday and was planning to see more on Sunday but it didn’t make sense to see them and get them sick (and I didn’t have the energy anyway). I am sad I missed them. But we will be back!
This was really your first stomach bug ? I am immensely jealous of that. Between working in pediatrics and having a small kid, I get them all too often and they are terrible!glad the rest of your weekend was fun!
Yeah, since being an adult anyway! The first I can remember. You are a prime target for getting them ๐ We don’t spend enough time around people to get them, and when a someone tells us their child is sick, we usually cancel plans, because we don’t have any immunity LOL
You’ve never had a stomach bug before?! (I realize Kiersten also commented on this, but I’m so shocked that I had to comment too.) That’s wild! I don’t get stomach bugs like I used to (“used to” being early elementary school, when I’d get them annually), but depending on when you define adulthood starting (at 18 or after college graduation), I’ve had one on two/four separate occasions (twice in college, twice post-college). It is extremely unpleasant!! 0/10, would not recommend. Though if you must get one, in my experience, it’s best to get one when you’re around people who are willing and able to take care of you. I hope you’re feeling back to normal now!
Vegan donuts!! How were they? Funny that you mentioned you had them this weekend – I was in Milwaukee on Saturday at a food hall, and one of the places in the food hall sold vegan cupcakes, which made me think of you and your vegan donuts ๐
I know! Nutso! I haven’t as an adult! I mean, I’ve thrown up a few times as an adult, but from migraines, not from a stomach bug. I haven’t had diarrhea since I lived with my parents. TMI, but makes me grateful I’ve been okay, stomach-wise, for so long! I hope your four that you got are the last for a while and if you do get another that you are surrounded by people who want to take care of you, like I was. <3 I am feeling much better today.
Ooo! Was it the Public Market and On the Bus or whatever it's called? Must know so I can go. These were delish. Ha, I ate BOTH of them, and a lot that day, which did not make for a pleasant experience later. Ha ha ha. Worth it.
It was actually the Crossroads Collective! It’s a little north of downtown, and I think it’s pretty new? I’ve been to Milwaukee all of two times in my adult life, so I wouldn’t really know, but the people we were visiting who do live in the Milwaukee area seemed to imply that it’s pretty new, and I figure they know what they’re talking about haha. The vendor was called Small Pies – obviously pies are their focus, but they had lots of desserts in addition to pie, including the vegan cupcakes!
Aww cool! A friend who was in MKE this fall told me about that place! I need to go and check out Small Pies!
Ugh, sorry that you both got that stomach bug ๐ It sounds pretty miserable. Those donuts look amazing! And a cat sticker mosaic?!? That sounds so cool.
It has been! We are getting better though. I think I am ready to start eating food with flavor again!
The book is really fun! I have to use tweezers! Ha, I didn’t realize my hand eye coordination was so bad. Here is the listing for it: https://tinyurl.com/spu2kne
I’m sooooo sorry about the stomach bug! That sounds AWFUL. It’s been years since I last threw up (pretty sure I was in college) and I’m crossing my fingers it never happens to me again, haha. I hope you’re on the mend!
Dexter is such a goddamn pretty cat. Please get him an Instagram (if he doesn’t already have one). The world needs to see his beauty.
Thanks! I hope it does not happen to you again either. It’s unpleasant either way, but I’d much rather have it coming out where it’s supposed to. Ha.
Aww, thank you! I think so too. She is so fluffy <3 Hmm, I don't think Dexter has an insta! I will let you know if she ever gets one!
