We had a weather delay in garage construction last week – it was rainy and windy most of the weekend. It was NOT safe to do what we needed to in those conditions.

We got a few things done though!

But first – we passed framing inspection last Tuesday, the 25th!!!  The inspector was knowledgeable and had a minor comment – we need to add anchor bolts within 6″-12″ of every break in the framing sill plate. We had just used the anchor bolts placed by the concrete crew – but how would they know exactly where our framing was going to start and begin? This will be an easy fix (except for one spot) we need to complete by our next inspection.

On Thursday we had to mess around with the tarp before the rain came. Ugh, our tarp is so ripped up from how windy it was on Wednesday. It’s even leaky in a few spots. Sigh. It’s mostly doing it’s job though.

On Friday, Steven finished installing the pesky northeast corner fascia. He had to remove most of the fascia next to it, realign it, then install the new one.

On Saturday, we got our Christmas tree! Steven also painted the cedar garage door trim pieces.

On Sunday, Steven set up temporary lights inside the garage,

we brought some materials in, and went through the garage door box to find the instructions and confirm Steven’s suspicion – that the concrete by the garage door needs to be cut to make room for the track.

The north, east, and south sides of the garage all had a form next to them so the concrete would be the same width as the stud walls. But they ran out of those forms for the west side and made it wider – see image below:

That doesn’t work for the garage door track – it needs to be placed where the concrete is. They concrete crew was able to come cut out the right amount of space on Tuesday,

and they also fixed some edge work that didn’t look great on the exterior of the garage! Woot!

We also cut the cedar garage trim pieces on Sunday. And that was it for this weekend. Hopefully the weather is better next weekend and we can get more done!
