Eek, I haven’t written a race report in a long time. How does this work?!
Jen asked if I wanted to do the Wauconda Turkey Trot (4 miler) with her. Yes! I used to live near Wauconda, but have never done this race. Although I did know the course was hilly from another Wauconda race I did.
Declan did the 2 miler and Troy did the 4 miler
I drove to Jen’s house and rode with her, Troy, and Declan to the start. Parking was easy and we had about an hour to hang out before race start. I got to meet all of Jen’s CrossFit friends, and one of them, Jenny, ran with us.
Us after doing shots on the course
The race started around 9:15. It was in the low 30s and not too windy (we had gusts in the 50-60 mph range yesterday and I was very glad NOT to run in that!). The start was congested, but we found space right away, and did about a 1:1 run:walk ratio. It was a good chance to chat, get to know Jenny, and take a shot on the course (ha). And this was the first time Jen and I have done a race together, yay!
We finished in 57:08. All participants got a long sleeved cotton tee (currently wearing), a custom magnet (GUYS! Not sure if you know I LOVE MAGNETS!), and a finisher medal. Declan was really excited to get a finisher medal made of medal – his others are made of rubber (from Disney).
We hung around a bit after, then headed back home. It felt strange to be driving around where I used to live. Everything felt familiar and NOT familiar at the same time. I felt like an outsider. Odd.
This is the only road race I’ve done all year! I don’t have anything planned for next year, although in my head, I’d love to get back in shape (lose weight) and race a few times.
When I got home Steven had already prepped most of our Thanksgiving meal and had it in the oven. All I had to do was peel potatoes. Woot woot!
We ate and started watching The Irishman on Netlix. It’s good but the de-aging freaks me out a bit. And I’m tired so I feel asleep. Oops.
That sounds like a fun, low-key holiday race! I don’t run road races anymore either, except for the New Year’s Eve Corrida here in town – Gillis is going to do the 4 K with me this year!
It was! So low key, I don’t even know where the start line was, ha.
Aww fun! That is awesome he is joining you!
I love that we FINALLY did a race together. I know I complained a lot on the course but thank you so much for sticking with me. It was really fun and a great start to the day. I really am thrilled that you joined us!!
Me too! You’re welcome! I am glad we got to run together π
