You guys.
I don’t know why I haven’t thought about this before.
Our intention for the new garage (name still pending!) is to store tools, building supplies, equipment, the Datsun, and to have a workspace. Right now, one of the stalls in our two car attached garage is used for tools, supplies, and equipment, and Steven parks his Volvo in the driveway (the Datsun is in storage in another town). I’ve been really excited about how much more space we are going to have in our attached garage to get around, when just our cars are in there. It’s so cramped right now.
I’ve been so excited about the potential future space in our existing attached garage that I haven’t been thinking too much about what will be in the new garage, and what I actually might used that is stored in there.
BUT GUYS.
I can put our bikes in there!
I currently store them all in the basement, and the mountain bikes are a pain to get up and down the stairs and out the door. If I keep them in the garage outside, I can just open the door and bring them right out! (You know, for those two times a years I use them.) THAT WOULD BE SO AMAZING!
OH EM GEE!
(Seriously, why did I not think about this until today?)
And if I ever decide to follow the bike equation of how many bikes you need (n +1, with n = the amount of bikes you currently own) I will have room to expand! And we could store things like kayaks. And other sporty equipment we will use once a year. Ha.
I am so glad we’re building the garage to be so big. I mean, we definitely want to build an actual workshop with a guest house down the road, but this will work for now (for the workshop).
I am excited for you – I love it when you can access your stuff without having to jump across a river or whatever – I bet you guys are going to feel so organized with all of the extra space. So much room for activities! (from Step-Brothers movie, if you aren’t familiar with that line and if so WHY AREN’T YOU? LOL)
Thanks for being excited! SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES! Of course I am familiar. Steven just watched it again this week. We love the “I thought you were a doucher!” line. Ha.
Our new house has an oversized 2 car garage and it is so amazing to be able to get the stroller and bikes out without having to back the car out first. And to store all the other crap out there so we can use our basement as more living space. You will love it!
Ahh yes! It makes life so much less irritating, right? Did your house have a finished basement? Or did you guys have that done?
I should take a pic of what our garage is like now, so I have the before and after. We built this huge thing to store all our supplies and we do not have enough space.
Ha! Funny you didn’t think of this before!
Our garage is so full of bikes we can’t put our car in, LOL!
This actually speaks to one of my issues I am working on, which is seeing the bigger picture!
That is how it should be π Especially with a family of your size!
Oh yes, this is great! Moving bikes is such a pain, and I always manage to scrape up the wall or a door. (How do they have so many pokey, scrapy parts?) Just being able to roll it out the door is such a plus.
I always run in to something too! And the cats run in to the basement when I have the door open. Ugh! Where do you store yours now?
