• GAH what is with all the spam calls lately? One day last week I got ten. All the latest ones leave a message in Mandarin. I like how my phone tried to translate this one below. Shave my what?!?!

  • I’m not a nervous/anxious flyer, but the landing always makes me feel hot, sweaty, and queasy. Wonder what that’s about. It’s probably about getting old, ha.

  • I finished An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. It was a quick read that I sped through in 24 hours (because I had two flights in there and lots of time at the airport). The main character becomes extremely self-absorbed and annoying, and the story ends with a cliff hanger, but I am okay with waiting for the second book (due to annoying main character). This book is creative and far-fetched, and I liked it. And I liked that it makes you think about social media and validation and attention-seeking activities.

  • I started and finished Spoonbenders, a book about a multi-generational family with magical powers that Rachel recommended to me. It was a fun read and I loved that it was set in Chicagoland and had lots of references I understood since I live here. I did NOT like that the author seemed to think “Aldi’s” is the correct way to spell Aldi. SIGH. (Thank you Stephany, for telling me about reporting content errors, ha!) The main story is set in 1995, and each chapter focuses on a different character – the grandpa, either of his two sons, his daughter, or her son. The daughter’s son is discovering his powers at the beginning of the book, and we get to read everyone’s back stories on their powers and some of the misfortune that has come with them – because the don’t always use them for honest endeavors!

  • I started The Woman in the Window because of a recommendation from a coworker. I am not sure thrillers are my genre, especially the “unreliable narrator” type. But I am getting in to this and will finish it. It’s about a woman who has agoraphobia and hasn’t left her home in eleven months and spends a lot of time “spying” on her neighbors, drinking loads of wine, and giving advice online (she was a psychologist and likes to go to a chat room for other people with agoraphobia and “help” them out). We’ll see what the big “twist” is!
