- GAH what is with all the spam calls lately? One day last week I got ten. All the latest ones leave a message in Mandarin. I like how my phone tried to translate this one below. Shave my what?!?!
- I’m not a nervous/anxious flyer, but the landing always makes me feel hot, sweaty, and queasy. Wonder what that’s about. It’s probably about getting old, ha.
- I finished An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. It was a quick read that I sped through in 24 hours (because I had two flights in there and lots of time at the airport). The main character becomes extremely self-absorbed and annoying, and the story ends with a cliff hanger, but I am okay with waiting for the second book (due to annoying main character). This book is creative and far-fetched, and I liked it. And I liked that it makes you think about social media and validation and attention-seeking activities.
- I started and finished Spoonbenders, a book about a multi-generational family with magical powers that Rachel recommended to me. It was a fun read and I loved that it was set in Chicagoland and had lots of references I understood since I live here. I did NOT like that the author seemed to think “Aldi’s” is the correct way to spell Aldi. SIGH. (Thank you Stephany, for telling me about reporting content errors, ha!) The main story is set in 1995, and each chapter focuses on a different character – the grandpa, either of his two sons, his daughter, or her son. The daughter’s son is discovering his powers at the beginning of the book, and we get to read everyone’s back stories on their powers and some of the misfortune that has come with them – because the don’t always use them for honest endeavors!
- I started The Woman in the Window because of a recommendation from a coworker. I am not sure thrillers are my genre, especially the “unreliable narrator” type. But I am getting in to this and will finish it. It’s about a woman who has agoraphobia and hasn’t left her home in eleven months and spends a lot of time “spying” on her neighbors, drinking loads of wine, and giving advice online (she was a psychologist and likes to go to a chat room for other people with agoraphobia and “help” them out). We’ll see what the big “twist” is!

I have been inundated with the spam phone calls lately – ugh!
I also wanted to say thanks for the book ideas. I recently finished “Dark Matter”. I also clicked on the link to Stephany Writes for some more book ideas.
It’s so annoying!
Aww, you’re welcome! Dark Matter was so good! Stephany writes a very good review each week of what she is reading and you will great some great ideas!
TEN calls in one day?! Yikes! That would be so frustrating! I haven’t gotten as many lately, but now that I say that, I’m sure I’ll start getting them all the time again.
It drives me bonkers when an author writes a story that’s full of details about the location, and then gets some of the details wrong. I remember reading a book when I was a kid that happened to take place close to where I lived, and I would get so annoyed over the story saying that the character biked from one town to another when that was totally unreasonable in real life, haha. Do your research, man! Especially nowadays with the internet, where it shouldn’t even be hard to research those things.
Yeah, it is! I just got a new line of credit so I think that is why I am getting so many (I seem to whenever I do something with opening an account, sigh). I am still getting that many :-/ I hope it doesn’t happen to you!
Oh wow! And no offense, but it’s even worse if it’s a mistake a KID picks up on! Come on, people!
Ugh – spam calls 🙁
The Woman in the Window makes me think of the The Woman on the Train…kind of a similar thriller. Not my favorite genre but fun to read from time to time!
Are they as bad there?
Yeah, similar! Also similar to Gone Girl, I guess. They’re not my kind of thriller. I am glad to have it finished 🙂
I’ve never gotten any! My oldest son has, though and he was incredibly annoyed.
It’s very annoying! I get at least 5 a day. A common thing here is to make it have the first same 6 digits as your # (area code + first three) to get you to try to answer. Sigh.
So now that you’ve finished The Woman in the Window, I need you to read this INSANE article about the author. It’s long but worth the read. He’s nuts: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/02/11/a-suspense-novelists-trail-of-deceptions
I’m on the fence about reading the Hank Green book now, especially since the main character was annoying. Hmm. Probably not something I’ll reach for to read anytime soon, I think!
GEEZ. OMG. He IS nuts. You know, after reading that book, I am not all that surprised. Did you read it?
I understand that! It was a bearable annoyance, and I bet she will learn in the second book, but it was too real to how so many people act NOW on social media, ha!
