I have a habit of drinking a lot of water, which is fine during the day when I can get up and go to the bathroom one to two times an hour.
But it’s become an issue at night. Some nights in the past week I was up three or four times to pee! And I’m in a phase where I’m able to fall back asleep (thankfully) but there’s another issue – the cats see me get up and think it’s time for THEM to get up, so I can’t fall back asleep because they’re being little sh*ts. Also, it wakes up Steven, who has been having sleeping issues for a couple of months.
So this week I’m trying out cutting myself off from water during dinner and after. Or, drinking MINIMAL amounts. It’s so hard for me to break the habit, but I need to, so I can sleep through the night… or only get up once (then try to sneak back to bed without waking up anyone)!
(The days I spend in the office are some of the nights I sleep the best because I drink less all day long due to bathroom access during the commute, and because of the distance of the water from my desk (not far, but I’m lazy), and because I’ve gotten up so early. But the side effect of that is a light headache from being dehydrated. Not sure that’s worth it!)
I have the same problem. I actually don’t usually notice how much water I drink and how often I have to pee, but I just started a new job and the person I am training with doesn’t ever drink or pee! So I feel very self conscious about doing either. And we had to drive 7 hours last night and I knew we wouldn’t be making many stops because Cooper would be sleeping, so I stopped drinking 2 hrs before we left. I feel terrible today!
Would it be okay to drink and take bathroom breaks on the new job, or is that person showing you it’s not okay by not doing it? π
Ugh, I hope you feel better soon! π And that you guys went somewhere fun! One of my driving tricks is to do a long run before a long car ride. Then I can still drink on the ride but don’t have to stop much because I am dehydrated from the run. Ha.
Same here – I drink water all day and don’t think a thing about it, but I practically can’t have any with dinner because yes, that bathroom thing is REAL.
Also, now that Paco is sleeping in my closet, I have to pass by it on my way to the bathroom, and I try to be super quiet so as to not wake the baby, as Jeff and I call it. It’s like when first time parents tiptoe around every time the baby sleeps. BTW while we may have done that with our first, our second got used to sleeping with a lot of noise. Best thing ever.
Do you say “eff it” and take a drink because you are so thirsty? I was last night, so I had some water before bed, but only had to get up once, thankfully.
I think it’s good to be able to sleep with a lot of noise! Can you train pets to be used to that? Ha, probably not because ANY noise could mean FOOD!!! π
I feel you! Same here – I have to be very vigilant about getting most of my liquids in before dinner time, or I’m going to have to get up in the middle of the night. But I actually find it more annoying to be out doing errands or something and having to pee, or when travelling…then I tend to let myself get dehydrated too, or we have to make pit stops every 2 hours
I hate it when I am traveling as well, and am in all day business meetings. Then I get a giant headache. Ha. It also sucks when you are a tourist in a big city and they don’t have many public bathrooms!
My problem is that I got so used to NOT getting up (even if I had to pee) with Dutch because the minute I was up, so was he. It meant taking him outside for his own pee break (which was fun to do at 2am, sigh) and then it would take him FOREVER to settle down and go back to sleep. So… I just held off getting up, lol. Now, the girls don’t make a fuss if I get up to pee but I’m still in the habit of waiting. It’s NOT a good thing to do! I need to be better at getting up and going.
I am impressed you can sleep through having to go pee! Once I feel the urge, I need to go. LOL.
The first time I stayed at your house, I noticed that you took a full water bottle up to bed and was surprised. I was like “How does she not have to go in the middle of the night?” (Now we know!)
That being said, I aspire to be as well-hydrated as you are!
Ha! I broke that habit!!!! No more water upstairs!
Thanks π I drank so little this weekend because we were so busy and it was weird not to go pee all day!
