Notes:
- The same thing happened on Monday’s 18 miler that happened on my Saskatoon one – I ran out of energy. I fueled differently this time though (had gels and a waffle and Vitamin Water) so I am not sure what is up! Maybe my body just telling me to back off.
- Ugh, then I bonked my 5 miler on Tuesday! Half way through I felt like garbage. I checked in on my heart rate and slowed down to try to get it down. Blah. Maybe I’m just adjusting to the mugginess?!
- I felt too mentally worn out from work to run on Wednesday and was just going to read in the hammock and nap and chill, but Steven went to the basement to work out and asked me if I was running. That was enough to get me out the door! Thank you, Steven! And I didn’t bonk that run, woot!
- I ran to Bobbi’s house Saturday and Sunday morning to check in on her cats Athena and Midge. It’s really fun to have an “errand” be part of my run (on Sunday I also swung by the library). And it gives me a huge break in the middle of the run, hee hee hee! I’m going to see how many more days I can fit that run in (it’s ten miles, round trip, at its shortest).
- Dad and I signed up for Day 7 of RAGBRAI this week so I better actually get my ass on my bike… soon…
- Monthly recap! In May I ran 185.2 miles (27 runs). My coldest run was 39°F and my warmest was 71°F. I taught 6 strength classes, and 2 fitness boxing classes.
Wait, you bonked on an 18 mile run? I think everybody bonks during an 18 mile run! But after Tuesday’s bonk, yeah, maybe you do need to slow down and give yourself time to adjust to the heat and humidity again. Hope it gets better for you soon!
Does Athena have a perfect white triangle on her forehead? I love that cute little head tilt she’s doing in that picture!
Thanks! It’s been better since then! I am wondering if I need to get some salt pills and start taking those, and incorporating walk breaks and some slower miles! I need to look back at my notes and see if this happens to me each year (probably, ha).
She does! She is so freaking cute! Apollo has been acting out a bit since I’ve been checking in on them. I wonder if he recognizes his mom’s smell. Ha.
Bobbi’s cats are so cute! And very cool that you could run there to check in on them. But bummer that you bonked twice this week…that sucks. I hope you figure that out!
They are! Midge is SUPER in to the feather toy. I got some funny flying action shots of her yesterday.
Thanks, I hope so too! I probably need to slow down and maybe start taking salt pills!
Yay for no bonking on the Wednesday run! Makes sense that maybe it’s due to adjusting to the weather. That’s a huge range of temperatures that you’ve had on your May runs.
It’s funny, each year I somehow forget how hard the adjustment is. Ha! If I think about it though, it takes a few weeks to acclimate… then a few weeks later on when it gets REALLY bad!
Maybe your electrolytes are off on the longer runs espec with the change in weather. You are doing so good!!
I think so! That’s gotta be it!
Thank you 🙂
