I’m a fan of sun photos. You may have guessed it if you follow me on Instagram.
What am I NOT a fan of?! THE GREEN DOT!!!!
GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
The green dot (and haze and lens flare, which I don’t mind) is caused when you take a photo of a strong light source, and the light comes in at a certain angle and reflects off the lens cover or the surface inside the camera. It’s kind of unavoidable with the iPhone I have (an 8????). In real cameras, you get an UV or polarizing filter to deal with it.
I sometimes take care of it by placing the green dot over the sun, which washes it out. When I don’t like that composition, I position it so it’s in an area that’s easy to “heal” with the Pixlr app on my phone, or with the “spot healing brush tool” in Photoshop.
But I HAVE to get rid of it. It’s such an eyesore to me!
Ahh, all better.
Does anyone else even NOTICE the green dot when they see it? It this only an iPhone thing?! Fill out the poll below!

So, the first time I noticed the green dot, I legit thought it was a planet. I AM NOT KIDDING. I was all, “Guys. Is this Mars?” And people were like, “Seriously?” lololol. It doesn’t really bother me too much, though!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. That’s amazing π I also wondered what it was and had to look it up for this post!
This is the first I’ve heard of the green dot!
I wonder if it only happens on iPhone lenses! What kind of phone do you have?
I have a very old Iphone (5) but I have never noticed this – I probably don’t take near as many photos as you do, though!
Or maybe it just doesn’t do it! Try it, the next time it’s sunny, ha! π
How funny… I’ve never noticed the green dot! I’ll have to look for it now to see if I notice. I love that photo you have with the sunglasses and the trail.
Let me know if you do! I think I am the only one it bothers π
Thank you!!! π
Wow, I had no idea this was a thing! Does it drive you crazy in other people’s photos too?
It does! And it’s so dumb that it does!
I don’t know about the green spot but I do have a bunch of floaters in my eyes. They can be incredibly distracting if I focus on them (like now π
Aww, Troy π I’m sorry! Don’t give yourself a headache!
::whispers:: I know someone who believes that the green dot in her pictures is her late husband – okayyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
It’s in my sunny pictures too but I never thought about photoshopping it out. Now I will if it’s in a picture I really like, thanks for the idea!
Oh and that shot with the sunglasses is just amazing. I really love it. You could print it onto note cards – that would make cute gifts. Actually a lot of your pictures lend themselves to note cards. Hey, another side business for you and Steven! π
Wow. No. Really? You should tell her he is here too! There are so many jokes I could make now but that would be insensitive π
You’re welcome! That app is decent but Photoshop does the best job!
Aww, you are too sweet! Thank you for saying that! I should get some custom cards. I am super in to cards and it would be fun to have my pics on them!
I’ve noticed it in my pictures lots of times, and I always wondered why it happened! Now I know π I thought maybe it was just my phone (also an iPhone 8), but apparently not. I wonder if it’s a problem with all iPhones, or just the 8? I don’t remember noticing it until I got the 8, but I also got it, like, three years ago or something, so I could’ve just forgotten by now, I guess.
I think I read it happens to other iPhones too? But I only noticed it with my 8 as well! So maybe it is just us. I don’t remember editing this dot out all the time. But I wasn’t on Instagram with my previous versions of the iPhone either, ha.
