Last week at my manicure, when the technician asked if I wanted to take my watch and rings off for a hand massage and lotion I asked if she was ready to see my crazy watch tan line.
She laughed when she saw it, then immediately starting teasing me about how I don’t have ring tan lines. “What does your husband think about that?!”*
“I can’t run with my rings on! My hands get too swollen! He knows I wear it the rest of the time!”
Ha ha ha.
‘Tis the season for crazy tan lines. Despite wearing sunscreen, I already have mine – watch tan, racerback tan, shorts tan. I really want to try a spray tan to even it out for beach time. I wonder if that would work? I’ve never had one before, but Rachel told me they warn you that some sunscreen and bug spray makes them streak. So no matter what I do, I will look ridiculous! I just want one summer of beach photos without these lines:
*This may sound like a sexist comment, but this is the technician I go to all the time, and we have a good/fun relationship, and she was light-heartedly teasing me.Β
They have these new self tanners that are really popular. They sell them at Target, etc. They’re a clear liquid. I haven’t used, but have heard good things!
I will have to check that out. Although I’d rather pay someone else to do it lol!!!
I’ve always considered these tan lines as a badge of honor!
They are! But they look horrible!!!!!
I couldn’t wear my wedding ring when I ran either – my fingers swell up too much!
St. Tropez mousse is the fake tan I use. For me it’s hard to screw up, which is saying something. I do use their mitt to apply it, though. Or, just own that shorts tan line because it shows that you run in the hot sun which officially makes you a badass! π
Exactly! And then boy does that feel horrible!
Thanks for the suggestion! I will look in to it π Ha! And I do own it but it’s REALLY jarring how big the contrast is between the white and tan!
I have zero idea if any of this will help you, but after I read your post I happened to be scrolling through the rest of my Bloglovin’ home page and this came up, so I figured I’d pass it along for your tan line questions! https://www.wellandgood.com/good-looks/how-to-even-out-tan-lines/ I feel you on the tan line thing, though. I REALLY want to avoid them as much as possible this year, because I know how long it takes them to fade. I plan to do all of my long runs with a sunscreen stick in my SPIbelt to reapply mid run – please no running tan lines for me this summer!
I don’t understand how people work out with jewelry on, but especially expensive jewelry like wedding rings. Aren’t they worried about ruining it?! And, more to my jewelry-in-general point, were they not indoctrinated that all jewelry of all kinds, up to and including hard barrettes, is strictly prohibited during athletic endeavors?? Because that is most CERTAINLY what I got from my youth soccer/middle school/high school sports days. You could get disqualified from a track meet for having stud earrings in, even if you were running the 100 meter dash and had almost zero chance of contacting anyone/thing that could possibly rip your earrings out! We have a company “Olympics” today that’s about as unathletic as they come (think three legged races, ring tosses, etc.), and I’ll still take all my jewelry off for that! Haha.
Thanks for sharing that link (I plan to read it when it finally loads)! I hope it helps that you will be reapplying during your runs! I am glad I was not much of a runner when I got married and didn’t have bizarro tan lines with my strapless dress!
Oh gosh, your comment takes me back to high school soccer and yes you had to make sure you had EVERYTHING off! I don’t like to even have studs in, either. For cardio or lifting! It all feels weird to me. But the elite married women are always running with their rings on! Ha, maybe they don’t swell like us π
Oh man! I still remember that photo of me on the jet ski the summer we were training for Milwaukee. My shorts tan line was so bad! I donβt wear my rings when I workout, either. So, no ring tan lines here!
Those damn summer activities showing our lines! Ha ha ha!
Oh, I wish I’d read this before our dinner last week. You could have seen Harrison’s crazy tan line (farmer’s tan).
I have to take my rings off when I exercise (and sleep) too. Do your fingers swell up on flights too? (The last time I flew I took my ring off and tied it onto my hoodie string so I wouldn’t lose it mid-flight!)
Oh man! I totally missed out!
Yes, I get so swollen on flights! I keep my rings on for them though (but also take them off to exercise and sleep).
