I’d be excited about my parents visiting any time of year, but I was especially excited for this visit because* I needed a break from work. [Broken Record] Work is so damn busy right now – so much that I’ve been working while they’re here (eyeroll) and had to go to the office today (MAJOR eyeroll) – and it’s been great to relax and do some fun things with them!
They got here onΒ Thursday and we stayed up late chatting!
On Friday we saw the Rolling Stones!
On Saturday we went to Milwaukee to eat good food, go axe throwing, and check out a street fair (we didn’t even know the street fair would be right by axe throwing – what a lucky coincidence!).
Dad sucks at axe throwing, like me!
On Sunday we mostly chilled, had El Famous for lunch, and made a yummy vegan dinner (“ham,” mashed potatoes, and dressing!).
Khali loves Dad
On Monday we went to the Russell Military Museum with Jen and Troy and the kids, and got to ride a tank!!! It made me really happy my parents got to spend time with our close friends.
This museum is right by our house and I had no idea how much stuff they have there!
On Tuesday (today) I went to work. EYEROLL EYEROLL EYEROLL. Steven is working too and my parents have been out exploring all day.
They leave tomorrow and I am pretty annoyed I had to go in to the office today (in case you couldn’t tell), but I am going to try to make the most of it tonight and before they leave tomorrow!!!** Then it’s back to the grind. The good thing about being so busy is that the days are FLYING by and the weekends come faster. The bad thing is that the days are flying by and I feel completely zapped and brain dead after work.
*and because of The Rolling Stones, duh
**Although I am definitely having thoughts of feeling sad their visit is over before it is GAH.
Ugh, is there an end in site for this busy period? I’m glad you’ve had a nice break while your folks were in town, but it really does make it harder to go back to something that’s stressing you out.
I love that photo of your dad and Khali!
We are in the middle of a big project at work right now, and I think it will become less busy after about 6 months, hopefully!
Thanks!
Boo, what a bummer that you had to go into the office yesterday! That would really upset me. Had you requested time off and they still made you come in?
I don’t think I had ever read the post you linked to in the **, but BOY did I feel that one! I was in a pretty crummy mood for the last few days of my Europe trip, particularly the 48 hours or so before we left, because I was SO sad we had to go home. I did my best to enjoy myself, but I know on the last day especially I didn’t have that great of a time, and most of it was due to knowing that I had to go back home the next day. And I’m dealing with the same thing now, being SUPER SUPER down in the dumps over moving out of Chicago (even though the suburbs to Chicago commute is a bit more manageable than the suburbs to Netherlands commute π ), but I haven’t left yet! I’m still here and could use this time a lot better by enjoying the time I have rather than moping about how it’s the last time I’ll do this, that, or the next thing while living here.
Yeah, I told them my parents were going to be in town and I wanted the time off but everyone on my team is on travel this week and they needed me to come in to cover for one of those people. I actually had to have someone cover for me today for covering for that person so I could have today off with my parents!
It’s really hard not to mourn something you know is ending, isn’t it?! Gah, especially leaving Europe. I was so down in the dumps after coming home from my first trip there. What do you think could help you try to enjoy things rather than think about them as a “last time doing xxx”?
I’m sorry it’s been so busy at work that you had to go in when your parents are in town! That’s no fun AT ALL. But at least you’ve gotten to do a lot with them so far. <3
I hope the work craziness slows down for you soon.
Yes! I am so grateful they decided to stay so long! And we had a late dinner last night and stayed up late and they left after lunch today, which made me feel better about the office day timing.
Thanks, I hope so too! Maybe next week people will be on vacation!!! Ha.
How far away do your parents live? And can I say that I love how attached you are to them – it’s great to see such a good relationship between adult “child” and parents. π
They live 250 miles away, about a 4.5 hour drive. They come out here once or twice a year.
Thanks! We do have a great relationship and really enjoy our time together!
