Bobbi and I saw Steve Martin and Martin Short last Friday and (duh) they were so funny! They did routines together and individual skits. I didn’t know Steve Martin played the banjo (also duh?) and enjoyed his solo music and him playing with the bluegrass band, Chatham County Line. It felt good to laugh so much at such a goofy, light-hearted event! I’m still laughing at it as individual jokes have popped in to my head since then.
If I take Khali upstairs and put her on the comforter she jumps off the bed and runs away. If I take Khali upstairs and pull the comforter and sheet back and put her by the pillow she instantly starts purring and rolling around, wanting attention! (Wait, is this why I wake up covered in cat hair?! Ha) What a goob! I call this “Khali special time,” and love petting her when she’s like this (until she gets overstimulated and scratches me).
What do you guys think of the new google search design? I understand them wanting to make the source of the content front and center so you can see where it’s from, but it seems like the search algorithms changed too, and for the worse. I was searching for a race website the other day and it didn’t even show up on the first page of searches, and the first two links were from Facebook! And putting every search in a box makes them ALL look like ads. Meh, not a fan.
I was chopping and cleaning broccoli last night and it was taking forever to clean because it was covered in dirt and BUGS (aphids, maybe)? I was slowly cleaning each piece and chopping it really small to get a good look at it when I grabbed a bigger piece just covered in bugs. And gave up. And tossed it all. And used frozen broccoli for dinner. And felt creeped out the rest of the night. We usually buy conventional broccoli at Aldi but they only had organic this time, so that’s what I bought. Is this normal for organic? Ugh.
I finished The Goldfinch, finally! The end really dragged on, but I mostly enjoyed it. It took me a month to read and I’m glad I read it but happy to be moving on to shorter, quicker reads.
Edited to add: I saw an ad in Instagram this morning for a movie based on the book! This may be the first time I’ve read the bookย before seeing the movie.
I readย Vacuum in the Dark over the weekend, a story about a house cleaner in New Mexico with a dark past, interesting clients, and an unique photography habit. I didn’t realize the book was a sequel! It totally doesn’t matter (reading comprehension-wise), but I wish I was reading them in order.
Now I’m reading Nemesis, a teen sci-fi book, and the first in a series of three. It’s fine so far! It’s definitely meeting my goal of being an easy read.
And finally, we’re watching Chernobyl on HBO and I started listening to the podcast yesterday. I’m really enjoying both and can totally see myself reading more about it down the road.
I saw their special on Netflix or Hulu or one of those channels – they were so funny! I’ve loved Steve Martin ever since I was a teenager. I had his album and could recite most of his bits word for word. What a neat experience to see him and Martin Short in person!
At the first sight of bugs, that broccoli would have gone in the trash immediately. And then I’d take the trash bag out to the can! That kind of thing squicks me out big time.

Ooo, I will have to look for that! That’s so awesome you had his album and have been a fan from such a young age. This tour totally sounds like something you’d like!!! They’re in Texas Fri/Sat then in Dallas 9/21! ๐ https://www.stevemartin.com/stevemartin/tour.html
I am not sure why I didn’t go straight to that. I guess I didn’t realize how bad it was. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still have that album – and could also recite bits from it verbatim! (“Those French have a different word for everything!”) LOL! I was a big fan of both of them when I was younger, mainly from Saturday Night Live. That was a great show.

That’s awesome! And it does seem like they were on SNL during the prime years, right?!

I saw an article about the thousands (yes, thousands) of parents who may have regrets about naming their children Daenerys or Khaleesi after the character went for mass murder in the penultimate episode. Poor Khali…I’m sure she’s just upset about the sullying of her good name ๐

Ha!!!! Most of the stuff I saw said people didn’t care too much! Our Khali doesn’t… in fact, she thinks her namesake went too easy ๐ฎ LOL!
Gross! That’s so yucky about the bugs on the broccoli. I definitely wouldn’t have eaten it!
I’m reading a teen sci-fi (well, fantasy really, but close-ish) book right now, too! I started The Golden Compass over the weekend. It was recommended to me that I read it before His Dark Materials comes out on HBO later this year, which I guess will be based on The Golden Compass and its sequels. So far so good! Much lighter than The Goldfinch, if nothing else ๐

It’s still making me feel grossed out, days later!
Ahh, someone was telling us about that series coming out! I never read those. I tried to watch The Golden Compass movie, and didn’t care for it. Glad you are enjoying a lighter read too ๐

Yuck yuck yuck to bugs in your broccoli! I once found a fat, squishy green worm in my broccoli, and it freaked me out – how many times I had missed the worm and just served it up to my family???
Steve Martin and Martin Short are awesome! My parents saw Steve Martin perform with his bluegrass band at a festival in North Carolina some years ago and they loved him. And Chatham County Line performed here in Leuven a few years ago (without Steve Martin) and we saw them – they were good, too!

Oh man! I think they would tell you if you served them a worm! Did you find it before or after cooking?
That is so cool that you and your family have seen them together! I wonder how long they’ve been together. I really enjoyed their music style!

Before cooking – but the thing is the worm was exactly the same light green color of broccoli stalks…so it’s entirely possible his brothers or sisters got previously eaten… Gag!
Oh yeah, I guess you could have! EEK!!! You still have your vegan card, in my mind! ๐ <3
Ahh, thanks for the link! He did tell us he'd been playing over 50 years! I didn't know it was so key in his early standup. One of the funny skits he did with Chatham County Line was a song called "I can play the banjo" and every time he did a solo it would be something real basic, like scales. So funny. Then another member of the band would show him up on his bango, so a sign showed up on the screen saying "starring Steve Martin" and he pointed to it, then an image of him on the screen (live) with an arrow pointing to him shows up. The guy keeps playing so well, so Steve makes him put a glove on, then he STILL outshines him. Funny ๐

Guess what? My mom, my sister and my niece bought tickets to see Steve Martin and Martin Short in Dallas in September! I told them that you had such a great time. They are excited!

Oh awesome! They are going to have such a good time!!! I am still laughing about it – I just told Steven one of Martin Short’s stories last week!
Ohhhh, Martin Short is one of my favorite humans. He’s hilarious. His memoir is FANTASTIC but I’d recommend the audiobook since he reads it himself and reprises some of his old characters. It’s sooo good. I need to read Steve Martin’s book!

I love Martin Short! He is hilarious. I bet he and Steve Martin are quite a team. Your cat is adorable! I just want to pet her!
He really is! He’s a giant goofball!
Thank you! <3
