- ZZ Top is coming here in September, and Cheap Trick is their opener! ZZ Top is a band I grew up listening to (and still do) and I knew I’d regret not going, so I got tickets for me and Bobbi! YAY!
- I finished The Passion Paradox, and it had a big impact on me (I wrote about one concept, here). I’m adding it to my list of books I’d like my own copy of so I can mark it up!
- I started and finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine in four days – I didn’t want to put it down! This novel was recommended to me by a random passenger on the train, so I had no idea what to expect, and it ended up being another big impact read. In the novel, Eleanor is lonely and awkward, and has had a rough upbringing. She has no friends or family, but thinks she’s completely fine without them (and with how her life is). She ends up spending a lot of time with a coworker and starts to grow and see the good side of family and friendship (something she didn’t learn as a child). This book really made me think about how impatient I am with socially awkward people (and that maybe I should be more empathetic, in some instances). And some parts of the book moved me so much I felt like crying. I’d read this again!
- I get super cheap haircuts. I got one a month ago and straightened my hair for the first time since on Tuesday and realized some chunks of hair were much longer than they should be. Ha ha ha. Maybe I should get a real haircut next time? Nah…

I read Eleanor Oliphant last year and thought it was really good and a very unique book. And yes, some of it was very emotional!
Sometimes a cheap haircut can be a crap shoot! I don’t get cheap haircuts anymore (used to, used to wish I could just cut my own hair!) but I do my own color at home, because I hate how much it costs and I hate sitting still in the salon for the hours it takes.
I am glad you commented because I remember you saying you read it and wanted to hear what you thought!
I always wear my hair back so I never really care about my cut, but seeing how bad it was made me think I should get a nicer one. That is great you can color at home!
I color my own hair too. It turns out just as good as wasting all that time and money at a salon. Now, I can’t cut in a straight line to save my life, so I have to leave haircuts to someone else π
That is great you can color at home though!
Oh man, I almost blogged about my last haircut, but it got so long that I ended up never posting about it. Ha. Anyway, I always get cheap haircuts too, and they’ve been VERY hit or miss. I’ve often found chunks that are different lengths than the others. The one I got in December was particularly bad, so I went back in March to get it all evened out. Instead, the stylist decided I needed “face framing,” and it’s like the WORST iteration of Rachel from Friends’s haircut ever. Totally uneven, not at all what I wanted (I wanted one consistent length!), just overall a total disaster. I bought a Groupon to an actual salon over the weekend so once my way-too-short layer grows out to a length I’m comfortable with, I can go there instead and get an even haircut.
Oh no! Not Rachel hair! That’s horrible! It’s so weird when the stylist decides to do their own thing. I hope your next one turns out MUCH better. Did you schedule it?
Not yet, but hopefully I will soon! Still need to give this shortest layer more time to grow a bit longer.
Eleanor Oliphant was one of my favorite novels from last year! Such a lovely story. Eleanor was such a great character.
One of the things I totally splurge on is my hair, lol. I probably shouldn’t tell you how much I spend on getting it cut, which I do about 3 times a year. (And the color! Getting it colored is so expensive, eeks.)
It is! And she is! I am definitely still thinking about her.
Hey, if it’s worth it to you, then it’s worth the splurge!
