- We got to see my snister’s kids this weekend! We went to Kansas City to visit a friend’s father, and stayed with my snis and her fam. It was so great to see them and the boys. Almost as soon as I got there, William was pulling on my hand to take me up to his play room. What a sweetie!
- We had such a busy weekend of visiting! On Friday we stopped by Steven’s dad to say hello, and had dinner with Christina (snis) and fam. On Saturday mid morning, we visited our friend’s dad, and we had an afternoon/evening BBQ with Steven’s friends (and had breakfast and lunch with snis and fam). On Sunday we met another friend for breakast, then we hung with Christina and fam all day (yay!), then had dinner with Steven’s dad and brother (and stayed there that night since his dad is so close to the airport and we had an early flight). It was kind of exhausting at times, but great to catch up with people. (Steven is from Kansas City, MO. My snis and I are from Iowa, but she lives on the Kansas side of the KC metropolitan area.)
- Bobbi’s son decided to go to our alma mater, Iowa State University (ISU)! Steven and I both think that’s so cool, and hope he loves it and excels there! It’s funny to me how once she mentioned he was looking at ISU, that I really hoped he’d like it and want to go. It’s a great school, but there’s also this desire for people to do the same things you do. I’m not usually like that so it surprised me that I felt it so strongly!
- Every once in a while I see a news article (like this one) about sending a veteran a birthday card, so I sent myself the article as a reminder, then send a card. Then wonder if they get the card and think “who the hell are Kim and Steven?!?!” Ha.
- Work feels more manageable this week. I have a ton of submittals to review, but I don’t have a lot of meetings so I feel like I have time to get sh*t done. What a relief, for now!
- Why does “submittals” always get marked as misspelled?!?! This is a real word!!!!

It was so nice to have you here!! William has been saying “Uncle Steven” on repeat since you left. (Don’t feel bad, I’m pretty sure his favorite word is “uncle” so he says it quite often with or without a name behind it.) He really loved playing with you all, and we loved having you here!! Please come back soon! <3
It was so nice to visit and just hang out between the chaos! Thanks for hosting us and dealing with all our coming and goings π
LOL William!!! I love that that is his favorite word – he has a lot of cool uncles to practice saying that word for!!!
I hope we (or just me?!) can come back soon!
William has gotten SO big!
One of my next door neighbors went to my alma mater, and I was so invested in her going there (and doing a bunch of the same things I did that I really enjoyed, ha.) Her family came over to hang out with my family when we were all home for Christmas, and even though she and I weren’t at my alma mater at the same time, it was fun to have something in common that we could both reminisce about (and have someone who understood why I care so much about even years. We have inter-class competitions that are even graduation years competing against odd graduation years, and it’s difficult for people to understand the intensity behind that (and resulting loyalties) if you weren’t part of it).
He has!!! <3
That is so cool. And it's so nice to have that thing you can share that no one else is gonna get. It's not about exclusion, but it makes you feel so connected, in your small group that went there, right? I need to hear more about these competitions! What kind of events do they entail?!
Omg, the boys both look so big in the photo! Ahh, time.
Your weekend sounds VERY busy, so I hope you had some downtime this week to recuperate. Everyone needs downtime! π
I’m so glad that work has been more manageable this week! My week has been the opposite, probably because we were all rushing to get stuff done since the colleague I work most closely with is out-of-office for the next two weeks. Eeks! And I’m trying to get as much work done as I can since I’ll be OOO for a week and a half soon. I’m VERY happy it is Friday so I can NOT think about work for the next few days. I need a break from the craziness!
Right?! Craziness!
We totally do, thankfully. No plans at all this weekend! Just the normal errands and some yard work!
Ahh, that does sound like madness. I hope it’s not like that the entire time until you go!!!!!
Your nephews are so cute! And William looked super happy to have his favorite auntie and uncle there – aww, what fun!
Thanks! He was! It was so cute! He’d want me to hold him or hold his hand or play with him. I felt like the chosen one. Ha!
Thank you for sharing that article about the birthday card! (I’ll send one and use my fancy stamper!)
Your visiting weekend sounds packed, but I’m glad you got time to see friends and family. That little story about William tugging on your hand is really sweet.
You are welcome! I will share any future ones I come across. And yay for using your new stamp!
I am glad too. We spent time with someone not doing well and I am glad we got to see him.
OMG it was so sweet. He has the best toys in his play room, too. I had fun playing!!!!
