- I’m struggling to manage my work stress. My heart rate feels strangely elevated sometimes (like all day Monday), and if I accidentally think about work during time off, I get upset. I’m trying deep breathing and logic/self talk, but it’s not helping (much). That stress and anxiety is seeping in to the rest of my life. So… yeah. I’m keeping an eye on that!
- At least I get to work from home often, with these guys. I love seeing the cats cuddle together.
- Did you see any funny April Fools’ jokes? I liked the one our veterinarian posted, and the one from Starbuck’s! Burger King announced they’re going to have a vegetarian Whopper on April Fools’ Day, and of course, I assumed it was a joke, but did some research, and it’s not! They’re testing out the Impossible burger Whopper in the St. Louis area. I know it’s not aimed at vegans, but it’s nice to have more options out there!
- I finished the final book in The Broken Earth series – The Stone Sky. I loved the first book, liked the second, and liked this one a little more than the second. It’s such an interesting, integrated story. In the first book, the supercontinent these folks live on is split across the middle, which kills most of the population, and causes a “season” of climate change for those who remain. A mom (the main character) is separated from her daughter. She spends a lot of the books looking for her daughter, and realizing what she needs to do to help their planet and stop these “seasons” from happening.
- Now I am reading Meb’s new book, 26 Marathons, yay! I gave up on Text Me When You Get Home. I realized I was more excited about reading other things and was probably never going to finish it.
I know that work feeling all too well 🙁
Our health is more important than our jobs. Always.
I am sorry you do! 🙁
It totally is. Which is why this is bothering me! My HR shouldn’t be jacked up for one full day like that!
Ugh, I’m really sorry about the work stress. It really can impact everything else 🙁 I hope it gets better soon.
Thank you! I hope so too! We are stuck in this weird state of unknowing and there’s this underlying anxiety from that. :-/
Sorry work has been so stressful for you. Please let me know if there is anything I Can do to help.
I just got Matt Fitzgerald’s new book Life is a Marathon. I’ve heard that its really amazing. I’d be happy to loan it to you if you’re interested.
Kiss those babies for me and have a great day!!
Thanks! I just need to not think/talk about it and have fun distractions, so we should plan a Thursday night dinner date!
I requested that from the library!!! Thanks for the offer.
I will! You too! :-*
Your cats are so fuzzy and cute! I love cats. Can you tell? My cat does not play well with others, so he is an only child, ha ha.
Awww, thanks! We thought our first was an only child too. But then we brought in Khaleesi (our dilute calico) and he became a whole new cat!
Boo work stress 🙁 I honestly don’t think I’d ever recover from the stress I feel at work if I didn’t exercise in the afternoon (though there are most certainly times where my motivation to work out is low after a tough day at the office!). Pounding out my frustration with a run or dance or strength training or whatever really helps a lot – though I realize afternoon workouts aren’t for everyone.
I didn’t see any April Fools jokes this year! Lame! I guess that’s what I get for not being on social media during the week as much anymore. The one from your vet is really funny!
I think those afternoon workouts help so much too! This week I tried to pregame one day with an early long run (since I am traveling this weekend) and it just made me tired and didn’t help AS much.
Yeah, they’re mostly online now! The one from our vet made me LOL!!!
OMG the kitten pictures are ADORABLE!!
My undergrad’s alumni association (Florida State) had a clever April Fool’s that really had some people going. They sent out an email (and also put it on their social media) later in the day that said the alumni association was planning to commission a mural in the University Center on campus and they were asking people to vote on two historic events for the mural: 1 was a big football play from a championship season, the other was when campus was overrun by streakers in the 1960s (and they had included real newspaper clippings from when it happened) hahaha!!! I could tell it was a joke but some of the comments were pretty angry and accused the university of not having any “class”, etc.
Also at the barre studio I go to, some of the teachers made some HILARIOUS modifications to the warm up (which is always standard) and they posted the videos to instagram. DEAD. People were totally following directions, hopping around the room, etc. LOVE IT
Matt and I were talking and people seem so freaking sensitive these days it’s like NO ONE can take a joke! So glad that there are still some people with a sense of humor
Thanks 🙂
OMG that is amazing! Did they actually have it set up to vote? I would totally vote for the streakers. I wonder if the prude alumnis are still fuming about the joke.
Ha! Why wouldn’t you follow the directions, right? I would! I saw someone post a joke list of the daily workout from a place that was 5 different kinds of burpees. Eww. Ha.
I can totally take these kinds of jokes! The mean ones, not so much!
YES—they had the voting buttons enabled in the email and everything!! I didn’t click to see if it would clue you into the joke though.
In one of the “fake” warm ups the instructor was basically giving slow mo instructions to one of the 80s dances (where you grab one leg behind you and move it front to back…bad description/don’t know the name) and then moved it to “tempo”. I was literally watching the IG story and laughing out loud!
Oh no, there’s really nothing worse than when work stress infiltrates your personal life. I hope things get better for you. <3 And YES to work-from-home days. They do my soul so good.
You already know about the April Fools joke my mom pulled on me. I'm still laughing about it today! The Starbucks one is adorable. Haha. If only there were Pupbucks!!
Thank you! I hope so too! I am so glad you get more work from home days now! 🙂 <3
OMG, she really got you! That made me laugh this week - thanks for sharing it!
I STILL have not read the other books in that series. Maybe this week over spring break.
Work stress sucks.I’m sorry you feel that way.
I know it sounds new agey but maybe try some guided mediations https://www.uclahealth.org/marc/audio <- My psych teacher recommended these when we were learning about anxiety. I do some of these sometimes and they are pretty good to help me to stop overthinking things.
Oh funny! I thought you had. I’d be curious of what you thought to them compared to the first one. I really liked the “twist” of the first one. There is stuff like that later on, but not to the same degree!
Thanks for the link! I SHOULD try that and don’t really think of it as new agey anymore – it’s pretty common!
Pets make good anxiety soothers. I’m sorry your work is affecting you like this, though – any chance of making a change?
I’m interested in the Meb book – let us know if you liked it. I mean, how could you not, it’s MEB, right? 😉
I am looking for a change still, yes! But no positions are opening I want to apply for. But I keep watching!
So far it’s good! The chapters feel short (which is okay) and I like how it keeps it to one lesson per race. There is some interesting Meb trivia in there, like that someone stole his Olympic laurel wreath after Athens!!!!
I’m glad the Impossible Burger at BK isn’t a joke! I haven’t tried it yet but want to.
I hope the work stress gets better. It’s bad that your heart rate feels elevated, but it’s good that you recognize the effect the stress has on your life, instead of just feeling “off” all the time.
Me too! I hope it’s successful and goes to all the BKs!
Last week was better! I had a ton to do but had time to do it! This week has been okay too. And yes to recognizing what was causing it! And to recognizing it’s better right now. I don’t want it to seep in to my personal life and ruin my personal time!
