Notes:

  • There was an anhydrous ammonia spill near our house early Thursday am, and instead of running away from it, I stupidly ran toward it. I didn’t know what it was when I started my run – I just saw LOTS of helicopters circling overhead. Luckily, I was far enough away not to be affected by the cloud of gas. Thirty-seven people went to the hospital and two remain hospitalized as of today (the other thirty-five went home, thankfully!). I hope the other two are able to recover.
  • Also in the news this week, a body was found in a retention pond I sometimes run by. Apparently, it’s the third one to be found there. Ugh. None of this is about me, obviously, but that news makes me more conscious about whether or not I run that route (which I already was).
  • On Friday I packed running clothes “just in case” I felt like running after teaching class, and I did! But I forgot my pepper spray and felt totally weird without it. I didn’t need it (I never have), but I think it’s a good sign I felt off without it – it was a goal of mine to start carrying it more this year, and it’s definitely ingrained now. Hopefully I never need to use it.
  • On to more positive things – I felt great on my runs this week! I was able to have a natural faster finish for both of my long runs (again, it really helps that I start them slowly, while listening to podcasts, then switch to music at the end).
  • I subbed the Thursday night strength class this week – so I taught that at 6:30 pm Thursday then taught my Friday 5:00 am class. Teaching those two classes so close together normally makes me feel like garbage, but I was smart, and had about 50% partner work for both classes so it was easier on me. Woo hoo!
