- I’ve been on the search for discounted running shoes since I wear mine out so fast. I kept seeing them in a good price at the right size, but wrong width. I finally found a pair at both the right size and width on Amazon, and ordered them. Then I saw another pair appear. And another (always just “one available”). So I ordered them separately. AND THEY ALL ARRIVED AND WERE THE WRONG WIDTH. CRY. Ha ha. Someone must have changed the title on the product. Luckily, Amazon has a good return policy, although it WAS kind of annoying to send all three back separately. Wah wah.
- Then I found a different older model at a discounted price and used the club discount to order those. So I’m good for a while. Phew. (No shame in my shoe game – one pair lasts me about 150-200 miles, and I run that mileage a month, so I stock up.)
- I was DEVASTATED (slight exaggeration) when I went to use a new running vest last week and realized the pockets didn’t have zippers. WHAT THE HELL is going to keep my phone from falling out?! Then I had a lightbulb moment and realized I could have the tailor add a zipper, like they did to my purse! I felt like a genius! And I pick it up from the tailor Saturday. (I posted on Instagram today celebrating my first tank run outside this year, but I really love running in vest weather.)
- All this talk makes it seem like I am buying running sh*t all the time. I’m not. I hold on to things way too long. I think I should actually be buying more for the amount I run, because some of my stuff stinks so bad I think I just need to throw it out. So if you see any Under Armour Cold Gear Mock Long Sleeved tops on sale, let me know!

Red Robin changed a lot over the years. I used to love going there, but with the exception of the fries and fry sauce (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fry_sauce), their food quality has gone down. As for non meat burgers, I prefer the Beyond Burger at Carl’s Jr and TGI Fridays.
I love your search for ASICS, which is my brand of choice. Granted, a pair lasts me 2-3 years, but when I find a pair that fit, I buy a few pairs just to have them.
It has! And I agree! The service is super hit or miss too. We’ve been going to TGI Fridays as well. We don’t have Carl’s Jr here!
What model of Asics do you wear?
If you don’t have Carl’s Jr there, you might have Hardee’s which is name in the states west of Colorado. They have identical menu items.
Asics model I have that I really like are Torrance. https://www.asics.com/us/en-us/torrance/p/0020004341.020
Unfortunately, they’ve been discontinued. Which is why I have a couple pairs of backup. The pair I have now are green. I found blue on Amazon. I’d like to find these black pair.
We have those in my home town. Or used to. I would be shocked if they had something vegan. I will have to look.
Those look nice! Sad they discontinued them π
I don’t think you can have too much running gear when you run 5-6 days a week. Otherwise you end up doing laundry ALL the time and stuff like pants, sock and bras wear out pretty fast on me anyway!
I wish Altras ever went on sale. I see a very occasional one when a new model comes out but they must not keep a ton of back stock because the old models sell out within days π
Right? It’s nice when I get to summer running and have enough stuff (and less layers) that I can go a little longer between doing laundry!
That stinks π You don’t see them on sale at expos or anything?!
Oh man, what a bummer about the shoes! I would be so disappointed if I thought I was getting three hard-to-find pairs and ended up with zero! Boo. I’m glad you ultimately got what you needed though π And smart idea, getting a tailor to add a zipper to the pocket of your running vest! It seems weird to me that any item of running gear would have a pocket without a zipper (unless it’s one of those teeny tiny key pockets you sometimes find on the inside of running shorts). Running is inherently bouncy – a pocket without a zipper isn’t going to be of much use, I wouldn’t think!
That was exactly it! I felt like my search was over! I am glad I saw someone posting about the running club code and thought to look at Runner’s Warehouse (they rarely have my size (12), but did!).
I thought that was weird too! And it’s FILA brand and was in the athletic section on the website so I figured it was for working out? I got it back and the zippers look great!
That stack of shoe boxes makes me so happy! We gotta do what we gotta do in order to keep running!
Funny that you wrote about the vest – I’ve been vest-less for a lot of years (I *ahem* outgrew my vest from when I was at my lowest weight). Every winter I want one, but every winter I balk at buying one. I tried one on yesterday that was on clearance but it didn’t fit perfectly so I didn’t buy it, even though it was only $30. Maybe I really don’t want a vest??
Me too! And yes we do!
It sounds like you are looking for the PERFECT vest and will know it when you see it! Are you looking at the kind of puffy style? Or the more fleece-y style?
I want the thin puffy style, if that makes sense. And why I am balking at paying for it is so dumb considering I’m wearing winter running gear that is SEVEN years old…I will get my money’s worth out of it. Sigh. Maybe I’ll go make the rounds online and see if there are any vests calling my name.
That does make sense. The one I just had zippers added to is that style (and I couldn’t use it yesterday because it was too cold and I needed thick puffy).
LOL, I am the same way. I don’t love buying new clothing items but know I will wear the hell out of them. I wish the one I got was still online so I could show it to you!
Ooh, this post reminds me that I need to replace my shoes. I usually keep mine for two years (or longer!), although they’re probably ready to be replaced after a year. Oops. It’s just so hard to find shoes I like since I have really high arches and am so picky about shoes. But it’s been probably three years since I replaced my current shoes – yikes! – so I need to make this a priority!
I hope you find some that work! Do you usually get fitted or just check out lots of different pairs?
Iβm just writing to say I just discovered your blog. I am enjoying reading your posts. You are inspiring me to get out and run more. And yes, I need new running shoes too but keep delaying. My style of Mizuno was discontinued but I found the new generation on Amazon and I have a gift card from Christmas.
Awesome, thanks for commenting!
I am glad you found a new generation of the shoe that works for you! I’d have a mini panic if they discontinued the ones I wear!
I’m glad you got some shoes, but man, what a pain to return all the wrong-width ones!
I’m glad you got your vest “fixed”/upgraded. Seriously, why would they not have zippers to begin with?
I was surprised there were no zippers! It wasn’t like it was a leisure vest that you’d rest your hands in. I want the things I put in my pockets to stay in there!
