Gosh, some days it’s really takes A LOT of effort to not snap at people. And be polite. And smile.
It’s been a week. I’m so drained right now.
When is it ever appropriate to comment on what people are eating, other than to say, “that looks/smells good!”?
Today I was mixing sugar and peanut butter in to my oatmeal at my desk when someone walked by and said, yes, “that looks good.” Okay, cool. It is good.
Then that same person came back, sat next to me, to talk to someone else, and would NOT stop bringing up that I put peanut butter in my oatmeal.
“Kim put peanut butter in her oatmeal!”
“Kim must really like peanut butter!”
“I made some cookies yesterday that had too much peanut butter for me, but Kim would probably like them.”
They said this all to someone else, while sitting right next to me, while I was trying to work. Then, to me, “you must really like peanut butter.”
OH-EM-GEE. STAAAAAAAAAAHP. Just STOP TALKING TO ME. FOREVER, preferably. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
And yes, I like peanut butter! Their mind would be blown if they saw how much I had in my locker!
This was obviously all completely harmless, just annoying.
Wow. That’s a hell of a lot of peanut butter. You must really like peanut butter.
I like it sometimes, shrug
Jeez! Rude!
Thanks for saying that, because I felt like I was just being really irritated, ha.
That’s really annoying! One comment is fine but to keep going on about it? Why?
This does remind me of a bunch of years ago while at a hot Continental breakfast at a hotel I put peanut butter on a waffle and this older guy was so amazed. He commented on it and then told me he was going to write about it on his blog 😂.
Exactly. WHHHHHHHHY.
OMG that is so funny. I wonder if he ever did! People act that way about seeing PB in my oatmeal often, too!
Good night Irene, people are so irritating!!! Speaking of peanut butter, I had to laugh last night – while watching Young Sheldon, he explained how his pb&j sandwich was made of Smucker’s strawberry jam and Jif peanut butter – the same exact brands that we’ve always had on hand.
Ha, that’s funny! I bet a lot of people use that combo!!!!
Wait – is it abnormal to put peanut butter in your oatmeal? I don’t eat oatmeal often anymore (because I got lazy in the mornings and toasting an English muffin takes a billion fewer years than making oatmeal), but for years I had it at least three times a week for breakfast, and I ALWAYS put peanut butter (or almond butter, when I was on an almond butter kick) in it. Do other people not do that???
Apparently it is, because almost any time someone sees me do it, they comment on it! I’ll admit, I didn’t start it until a few years ago when a restaurant served it to me that way!
And yeah, some mornings I just want to use the toaster oven, too. We don’t have a microwave so I make my oatmeal on the stove. It’s a treat to use the microwave at work, ha!
So weird! And isn’t it fairly common to put peanut butter in oatmeal? This just sounds like a very strange encounter.
It must not be because people comment on it a lot! Every interaction with this person is strange, unfortunately. Sigh.
Whyyyy do people feel the need to comment about what other people are eating? I feel like I have really weird eating habits, so I get this a lot. But also, peanut butter + oatmeal isn’t a weird combo. This person is missing out if they’ve never tried it!
I would be irritated too… what a strange person!
It always blows my mind that people make rude comments (or comments at all!) on what others are eating. There are so few instances where it’s appropriate to comment at all.
This person is super strange. Another day it was company potluck day, but people don’t bring vegan food (which is fine!) so I used this free meal I had at the vegan restaurant and brought it back and this person comes up to me to say “OMG, I can’t believe you PAID for a meal today!” Sigh. Just why. Why say these things?!
What…on earth. I probably do this too (talk about something too much as a way to connect with people), so it puts it in perspective hearing about this behavior from the recipient’s point of view.
Agreed that commenting on people’s food is a no-go. As we’ve determined many times, people don’t think.
PB rocks though. I just ate some out of a jar!
You may over talk but you would not be weird about something like this person is. I am certain of that 😉 You’d just be passionate. Oh! I have to send you this short article about talking to people that you may like.
PB 4 LYFE! PB is my ride or die. LOLOLOLOL
