Ahh, seeing Styx with Rachel was awesome!
They played all their hits, as well as several songs from their newest album,Β The Mission. Their new music sounded a lot like their old stuff, and I liked it, but of course, I mostly wanted to hear songs I was familiar with.
The show was LONG! They played twelve songs, had an intermission, then eleven more songs (here’s the set list). They even did a little bit of “Yellow Brick Road” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which we loved.
They left the stage after “Come Sail Away,” but we knew they had “Mr. Roboto” and “Renegade” left to play, and that was the encore.
It was so fun to hear everyone in the audience singing along to their classics, especially “Come Sail Away” and “Too Much Time On My Hands.” The guy sitting behind us knew the lyrics to EVERYTHING, even their newer stuff! Super fan!
I love the Genesee Theater, where they performed. It’s a beautiful theater, with an intimate setting, and most people don’t stand during the performance. <— winning. And the two times I’ve been there, there’s been no opener. <— also winning. And it’s close to the house. <— FOR THE FINAL WIN!
Styx is from Chicago and they said this was their tenth time performing at the Genesee! They were high energy, and the keyboardist was particularly entertaining. What a fun show. I’ll definitely have those songs stuck in my head for days to come!
Thank you Steven, for taking us to dinner, dropping us off and picking us up at the show, AND making cookies for us to eat when we got home!!!
Sounds like a fun concert! Close to home and no one stands, that venue sounds perfect π
Exactly! So easy! I tend to not go to concerts because of logistical headaches (and price, ha), but this venue is great!
Its so nice they don’t have an opener. When we went to see Kelly Clarkson we sat through 2 openers (granted they were both good but I didn’t know their songs) and all the breaks in between, so in all I think it was over 2 hours of sitting before Kelly actually came out. My back was so sore after sitting for so long lol.
I’m glad you enjoyed it so much! The cookies look yum.
UGHHHHHHHH. And then I bet her concert was an hour and a half or more?! I totally understand your back hurting! My butt hurt after sitting through this 2.5 hour concert of stuff I wanted to hear!!!!
The cookies are so good! Oatmeal chocolate chip with sea salt on top!
Wow, this sounds like the perfect concert! I love love love singing along to oldies, and while I know the musicians like to play their new stuff, I imagine it’s more fun for them to have the entire audience involved when they play their hits.
I was thinking that too – that it’s gotta be more fun for them to see everyone excited and singing along! They kept saying they recognized the faces of some of their hard core fans. I wonder if that’s true!
That sounds like SUCH an awesome concert! Concerts without openers are the best – especially in this case, because it sounds like that give Styx way more time to play their music! (It does sound like a really long concert, though! I don’t know if I’ve ever been to a show where one act played 23 songs! That sounds more like a musical, hahahaha π ). Glad you had such a good time π
It was so long! I had told Steven I thought it would be over in about 1.5-2 hours then had to text him at intermission that I was a bit off with my estimate of when to pick us up. Ha. It was a treat to hear so many songs though!
Iβm so glad to have a friend that shares my love of 80s rock! Thanks for the wonderful date night!
Me too!!!! Although, it’s so strange you were born in the 80s AND like 80s music… LOL
You’re welcome! Thanks for being my date!!!!!
It sounds like a really awesome concert at a great venue! So glad you girls had such a great time π And Steven is a star!
Me too! Yay for Saturday night concerts at small venues with no openers!
He is! It was so nice not to have to think about parking (even though it’s easy there)!
This sounds so fun! I love all the songs you pointed out. In high school, a bunch of the guys in the class above us did “Mr. Roboto” at the talent show. The guy who sang did it on roller blades with all the padding on to make him look like a robot. And even now, Harrison and I always sing it at karaoke!
I also like that Steven made you cookies for after the show!
Ha, that sounds really creative and fun! I thought of Harrison when they were singing it!
They are so good! They’re oatmeal chocolate chip with some sea salt on top nom nom nom.
