On a day where everyone is talking about the weather, I will spare you that, and give you what you typically expect of me – cat stories!
Although, this is more a story about me.
Yesterday was Khali’s annual vet appointment (kind of funny that we’re more diligent about the cats’ annual checkups than our own…). She needed to get some shots and have her weight checked, since she was at the top of her “healthy weight range” last year.
The shots and checking her weight (she is down .7 pounds!) took less than five minutes. How long was I there though?
Ha, probably thirty minutes! We became so close with all the staff at our vet’s office last summer when we were there all the time to visit the kittens, so I was actually looking forward to this visit, as a chance to catch up with everyone! People kept coming in to the room to say hi and give me hugs. Aww.
Poor Khali though, she just sat there on the weight stand, waiting for me to stop talking, then we put her in her carrier, and talked some more, and she waited. Reminds me of when I was little, and my mom would run in to someone she knew and just talk and talk and talk. Only, I had planned to catch up with everyone, and was looking forward to it, I just had no way of telling Khali that (well, I told her, but I don’t think she understood). At least she got a wet food treat (from them!) out of it!
Sadly, I didn’t have my cat sweater ordered (I haven’t even started researching it). The vet technician even asked about it! I will have to get it made for my next appointment!
In other cat news, Rachel brought them a bunch of fun toys on Saturday. They loved them all, but especially this vibrating hex bugΒ (<— not an affiliate link) with a tail! It vibrates and scurries across the floor.
They loved it so much they’ve already lost it. Sigh. I ordered a few more. We’ll see how long those last!
Edited to add: I am an idiot and forgot I put this toy away. I just found it. Face palm.
Good job Khali!! Maybe she should come teach Dexter her ways.. π
I think it’s normal to be more diligent about your animal children, or human children’s checkups then your own. Generally you know if you’re feeling ok, but they don’t really have any way of telling you if something is wrong!!
She def can!!! π
Good point! And we care more about their health, ha!
We’re more diligent about our vet appointments than doctor appointments too. And yep, our cats tend to lose their favorite toys too. I’m sure they’re probably all under the bookshelves or couches somewhere.
We bought one of those grabbers so we can rescue their toys! LOL. It’s funny when we move the couch and there’s 15+ toys under there!!!
OOOhh I think I’ll get that toy for Boomer. It is probably a bit small for a dog but he was our resident bug hunter in SC-I think he misses the occasional cockroach (eugh)
Yes, do it! Let me know what he thinks of it!!!
Too bad her appointment wasn’t during your furlough! That would’ve been a good opportunity to interact with other people! Do cats know when you’re taking them to the vet? My dog HATED the vet, and even though we only went there with him like once a year at most, he’d recognize the building instantly and start freaking out. Are cats the same? (Not that it sounds like Khali has any issues with the vet – I’m just curious if they experience the same vet anxiety.)
I know! Ha! I thought I might still be furloughed when I made it for Tuesday, ha!
I don’t know if they know they are going to the vet, but Khali doesn’t care to be in the car too much. She does this nervous panting thing! The kittens were fine in the car but it’s been a while since we went anywhere. All three are behaved and docile at the vet. I wonder if the kittens will recognize it more since they lived there a few months!
What did you do to help your dog at the vet? You’ve mentioned him a few times! Send me a pic so I can see this cutie!
I love that you look forward to going to the vet and socializing. That’s really special! I’ve been reading this book about living a rich but frugal life, and these kinds of interactions and being part of your community are exactly what the author encourages readers to do. So bravo!
That being said, I can totally identify with being a kid and waiting for your parents to stop catching up!
Also, if I didn’t know that was a cat toy, I think I’d think it was a sex toy.
Aww, thanks! I really believe in those sort of connections too! What connections do you feel with your community?
Ha! Hey, it vibrates, has a soft part… I can see that π
Hex bugs! My kids had some of those! I can see how the cats would go crazy for them!
They’re so clever!!!!! What a great idea for a toy!
Ooh, this reminds me to order those bugs for Eloise! She has gone CRAZY for the little mouse I showed on Instagram that moves around (thankfully, I was able to rescue it from under the fridge for her).
That’s so fun that you’ve developed such a rapport with your vet’s office. I’m sure they love having someone to chat with, as well, not just harried pet parents running in and out of their office.
I am glad you rescued it! Ha! The bug is very similar, so she would like it too!
And I love it, too! And even though I already thought they were awesome vets before we had this relationship, it makes me feel like they’ll take care of my babies even more, if that makes any sense. LOL.
This reminded me that a friend and ISU student is considering going to Rome for the fall semester this year. She was worried about missing her cat, so I told her about you volunteering at the cat sancturary. She was very interested in that!
Oh yes! She totally should! That helped me SO much!!!!! Here is their website if you need it! https://www.gattidiroma.net/web/en/
What program is she going there for?
