I thought this work week would be decent because I’m only working two and a half days, but ha, no. I’m working with an abrasive personality, and I’ve gotten my fill (them telling me I need to take training on how to do my job pushed me over the edge). Working with them is making me feel so frustrated and annoyed, I don’t feel like I can do it anymore.
But we don’t get to choose with whom we work! So I reached out to someone above me for help. Before I lose my cool at work. Deep breaths.
Anyway, here are some things that have been nice/cheerful this week, since I got back from my trip:
- My coworker sent me an adorable video of her son opening my holiday gift for him.
- I had a bad headache yesterday, and Starbuck insisted on keeping me company wherever I went… including the bathtub.
- My mom requested I bring homemade cornbread to Christmas Eve dinner because “everyone loves it so much.” That was nice to hear! (Vegans don’t hear that often about their dishes, ha.)
- It’s going to get in to the 40s here today, tomorrow, and Sunday. HEAT WAVE!
- We’ve received a few holiday cards this week!
- Rachel and I got tickets to see Styx in February!
- I’m loving the Sugared Snickerdoodle candle from Bath & Body Works. And I have a funny (to me only) story about their candle crates.
- It’s FRIDAY!!!!
Sweet baby Starbucks wanted to comfort you β€οΈ
I think so! Such a sweetie! She and Khali were both comforting me in bed while I tried to nap!
That person sounds awful I hope you don’t have to work with them often!
Starbuck is such a little sweetheart.
That is what I am hoping for too π
She really is!!!
You’re going to Styx? Oooh, Harrison will be jealous!
When I saw the title of this post, I tried to guess what it would be. My guess was something about the cats licking you with their rough tongues, but I was obviously wrong. I’m sorry you’re dealing with such a difficult person at work!!
I am! In February! So he’s a fan?
Ha ha ha, that is funny you did that! I was thinking about doing a totally click baity title “How to deal with abrasive people” but didn’t π And thanks!
Ugh, isn’t it amazing how much of a difference one person can make at work? There was one person that the consulting job who seemed to really have a problem with me, and even though everyone else was great, I dreaded work because of that one person. Will you have to work with this person for a long time?
It is amazing! In the most horrible way! I am sorry that happened to you! π Will you ever have to consult with them again?
I will, we just got a new project together.
It annoys me how awful people can be and still keep their jobs because the company thinks it is easier to keep a terrible person than to go through the trouble of firing someone or training another person. It makes me wonder why I bother to try and do my job well and be nice to people. Sometimes I really wish I could be one of those people that just doesn’t care, but I am too much of a people pleaser.
You might be a people pleaser, but you’re also NOT a jerk. And are polite. And it’s really hard to work with people who aren’t that way. It makes me wonder how they got to that point (and to your point, why companies keep them – they must need the bodies!).
Styx? Mr. Roboto? Come Sail Away? I’ll have these playing in my head all day now!
You’re welcome! π
That coworker does not sound pleasant at all π Boo. That was nice of Starbuck to take care of you with your headache! What a cutie π
In other news, I started Little Fires Everywhere on Tuesday, and I’m currently 72% of the way done. OMG. OBSESSED. I haven’t devoured a book like this since The Hunger Games. I LOVE IT.
They are not! And I keep thinking of all the stupid training about how I should adapt to someone else’s personality style, but I just can’t do it anymore.
Yay! Are you finished now and wanting to know what happens next?!
Starbuck must have known you were having a rough week! Hope next week is better…
…and now I want to go listen to Styx!!!
I hope so too, thanks!
Do eeeeeeeeeeeet! π
Ugh, I’m sorry for the crappy work situation. That always makes work so much harder when you have to work with someone like that! We don’t have a ton of personalities like that where I work, thankfully. I like working with just about everyone, and for those I don’t, I have people to vent to and who can sympathize, which helps!
I’m glad its mostly not like that where you are! We only have a few people like this too and I do work with some great people I can vent to, so thanks for reminding me of that!
Starbuck is such a love!
And STYX??? Damn, that’s going back to my high school era – loved them! Bet that concert will be one big sing-a-long, how fun!
Yes, that is what I am hoping for the concert!
