- Happy Thanksgiving (American) friends! We’re doing two Friendsgivings – one today, and one on Sunday. (We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving with our families, but will see them for two separate Christmases.) I sometimes get groceries on Wednesday night after I get off the train, and whoa, that was a bit nuts last night! Duh, Kim. I got the essentials for my babies, though.
- It feels odd that I haven’t updated you on what I’m reading in a while. Which is funny to me (that it feels odd), because for so long, I only read non-fiction (memoirs, sociology books, and sports psychology books), which took me a while to read, so I rarely wrote about what I was reading. Anyway! I just finished Under A Dark Sky by Lori Rader-Day. It took me a few chapters to get in to it, but then I didn’t want to put it down. It’s about a woman, Eden, who lost her husband under a year ago, and finds reservations he made for a “dark sky” park in northern Michigan to view the stars, and decides to go. Two problems though – she’s afraid of the dark, and there’s a group of friends (she doesn’t know) staying in the house too. There’s a murder and she ends up getting entangled with that and a bunch of crazy stuff is revealed about the “friends” and about Eden and her husband. Dramz.
- I just started Annihilation by Jeff VanderMerr last night. I saw the movie with Natalie Portman in the theater (and again at home) and thought it was interesting/trippy and wondered if I’d like the book. Oh my gosh, just in the first few pages of the book, it’s SUPER different from the movie, actually answering a lot of things that made Steven bonkers about the movie! I am curious to see how different it ends up being!
- We’re having some work done in our yard this week – our driveway is being re-leveled with new gravel added, and the area where we want to put a garage/shed is also being leveled out with gravel added. And a bunch of buckthorns are being pulled out. And a few trees knocked over. The poor cats – they were really scared when this big tree got knocked down. Sorry, babies.
- The past two nights, instead of hanging with us during dinner and watching a movie (like they usually do, and Starbuck was), Apollo and Khali holed off somewhere, together. Aww. Snuggle buds.
- We watched part of Armageddon (I don’t care what critics think, this movie is amazing and gives me all the feels) on Tuesday, and watched Crazy Rich Asians last night. I thought Crazy Rich Asians was really fun, and cute. And a bit unrealistic at the end, but whatever. It was nice to be entertained. (OMG that wedding scene – that was insanely extravagant!)
- I heard on the radio that The Rolling Stones are coming to town in June and noseblood ticket prices are $300 each. What the heck?!
- The $12 Starbucks giftcard card winner was Kiersten! I emailed it to her. Thanks for playing along!
Martina went shopping yesterday and said it was nuts and I don’t go to this TJs because its so crazy so I can’t imagine! Does Starbuck cuddle much with the other two?
Good call on staying home 🙂
She cuddles with them too! She cuddles a lot with Apollo, and sometimes with Khali.
And that is why I almost never go to concerts anymore. Late high school andninto my undergrad, I went to a ton of shows and none were above $50 and even that was extravagant (Stones, no less). Most were $25-35. It’s very rare that artists charge that low a cost anymore. When they do, I’m compelled to support them for it but cannotbusually because I’m a parent in the far west suburbs. Hard to just get up and go for a concert.
Concerts are a HUGE freaking hassle, even when they are not so expensive! I really have to want to see the artist to go 🙂 But not for several hundred dollars a seat! 😉
Meeee Kiersten? Or is there another one? I didn’t get an email! And Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes you! I sent it to your yahoo, which is apparently what I had in my address book. Please let me know if you didn’t get it, and happy belated Thanksgiving!
You’re such a fast reader! How do you find all these books? Does the library do recommendations based on what you’ve checked out before?
Aww, thanks 🙂 I find them in the new book area at the library, and from recommendations from friends (and sometimes articles). The library doesn’t have a program that does that, but that is a cool idea! How do you usually find what you want to read next?
