- Every soft skills course I take at work ends up being about personality types (Myers–Briggs, DISC, what have you) and generational differences, and how the other person isn’t going to change, so I need to adapt to THEM. I find that stuff interesting, but I’d like to dive a deeper than being told I need to change my communication style all the time for the other people. I did that, on my last detail, every single day, and yeah, it worked. But how do we help the other person, rather than adapt to their style all the time? I want to get more in to the nitty gritty.
- Our road is complete. Check out our new shoulder versus what it was before! It’s not super wide, but much nicer to run/bike on.
- Ugh, it seems like cold season is here! Lots of throat clearing and coughing and sneezing on the train this week. AHHH!!!
- When the Bath & Body Works closed in the train station I hoped they were just remodeling… but no, an Amazon Go is going in that spot. Sadness! Better for my wallet though. (This will be our second Amazon Go. I checked out the first one a few weeks ago.)
- What do you think of Thunderstruck‘s new home? He can hang there until I get another medal rack!

The DISC thing you are talking about (why do I have to adapt to other people’s personalities/why is their DISC results an excuse for their shitty behavior/attitudes) is exactly how I feel. I completely understand what you are saying there!! It’s like “Oh she is just a high D so you need to make sure you don’t take it personally” and I’m like “Or maybe she could just check herself and not be a bitch?”
Idk what is wrong with me, but when you text that pic of the Amazon store to Mom and me I thought you said it was a Barnes & Noble. (Facepalm.) I now understand the gravity of this situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EXACTLY. You exactly get what I mean. Sure, the little hints help me figure out things about their personality, and why they may be that way, but how about they be PROFESSIONAL?! I think it’s so ridiculous. And you know those people aren’t adapting for YOU.

You adapt to the others because you are the nicer person. Kinda sucks to always be the one doing that, but I think it’s also a sign of maturity.
That newly paved road is sweet! Nice and smooth, wonderful for running. And I think Thunderstruck and the kitties look perfect, watching over your medals. 🙂
It IS a sign of maturity. It just gets so old. In your personal life, you stop communicating with people like that. In your work life, you can’t.

I’ve been told to adapt (for a boss) which kind of makes sense, they are your boss, but really they were just a shitty person that gets away with it…grr.

Sometimes it makes sense (even though it sucks) when it’s some important person, yes. But it’s so freaking draining. And really, what if someone taught them to be nice and considerate earlier in life but they never have been since everyone adapts?! Ha ha!

I didn’t get anything when I went but they had a lot of good options! It’s like a fancy convenience store. I like the idea of not having to wait to check out. Or to have to talk to anyone. Ha.
Wait. That doesn’t make any sense to me. How come the expectation is that other people will never change, so therefore YOU’RE required to change? That seems ridiculous and one-sided! And how’s that supposed to work if both people have been given that directive? Like, if Person A has Personality A which requires you to communicate with them in Style A, and Person B has Personality B which requires you to communicate with them in Style B, what happens when Person A and Person B get together? Is Person A supposed to communicate with Style B, while Person B forgoes their usual communication style (even though that’s how they’re being communicated to) and instead adopts Style A? So many questions.
Your road’s new shoulder looks like SUCH an improvement! It looks like it’d be especially nice for anyone riding their bike on it.
That’s a lovely home for Thunderstruck! Is that medal rack the only one you have, or do you have others, too? My medal rack is overflowing and I’m not sure where I want to go from here, which is why I ask. Part of me wants to get an expansion bar to put below it, part of me wants to get an additional medal rack (or possibly medal racks), perhaps with themes (like one for my half marathons, one for my full marathons, one for my no-one-should-get-a-medal-for-running-this-few-kilometers :P), and part of me thinks I should find an entirely different way to display/store them. Decisions, decisions.
That is EXACTLY what this class said – people don’t change, so YOU need to. But right, what if that person took the class too and is trying to change for you and you are for them?! Why don’t we just teach people to get over whatever crap made them how they are, and how to appropriately act at work?! Ha. (not that I am having issues – I just think this method is ridic).

I am asking for another rack for xmas to go above the one I am showing in this photo. I’ve thought about themed ones, like one just for my halves, as well. I know the closing of B&BW is easier on your wallet, but I’d be a little sad about that too. I bet it was a nice pick-me-up every once in awhile to go in and get a little gift for yourself (or someone else).

I’ve seen the news stores about Amazon Go. The closest we have to a physical Amazon presence here in SLC is Whole Foods LOL
