- For a while we’ve thought it would be nice to have a small table in the foyer, and we got one this month, as a holiday gift for each other. Steven said we’re really adulting now, since we bought a piece of furniture for a room we don’t spend any time in (other than coming and going)! Ha!
- Wednesday’s quote of the day was a classic! And one I will be thinking of often as I get dressed for cold weather runs. Note: the fleece leggings I got from Amazon have been working well!
- It’s crass to discuss but I am going to say it – I am grateful for work bonuses in helping me pay off holiday gifts!
- Sigh. When I tell you I am sick, please don’t go straight to “Did you get a flu shot?” Pretend to have some sympathy first, before you go in to your flu shot lecture! (And what is the point of the lecture if I don’t have the flu?! Also, I generally keep being sick to myself and am NOT looking for sympathy, but sometimes you do have to tell people – like at work. And I do mention it in my training recaps, and life recaps, here.)
- I can’t believe Steven’s dad and brother will be here in a week! AHH!!! We have all the presents purchased (just need to wrap them), except stocking stuffers. We still need to grocery shop and clean the house. And decide if we are going to put up more holiday decorations – we kept it low-key this year.

Work bonuses are definitely great! We sadly don’t get ours until March. It seems like a lot of people around here have been sick lately too. I hope you feel better soon!
Oh man! Why in March?
Thanks! π A lot of my friends from all over the country are saying how everyone is just sick sick sick! Hopefully the whole season isn’t like this!
A bonus anytime would be really nice π I use to get a little one at the part time job I had for years but the county I work for…that isn’t a thing lol sadly.
I can’t get a flu shot I am allergic so no lecture from me, they year I got one I blew up like a balloon. Hope you feel better soon π
Oh man! I wish it was still a thing for you!
Oh wow! What are you allergic to that’s in it? Thanks!
It’s when you get excited about buying furniture that you know you’re an adult, LOL. That is a nice piece and I bet you guys will love it…looks like a good key drop spot, too!
Yesterday I became Officially Finished with my Christmas shopping. And I did the bare minimum with decorations, too – by the time I was finally able to get help in taking our box of decorations down from the attic, the momentum had passed. Just as well, less to put away, right?
Major truth! And appliances, right? Ha! It has been a good key/water bottle/purse drop spot! Especially in the winter when you have to take off your coat and everything else.
Yay, congrats on being done shopping! And yes, less to put away. I feel festive, and like what we put out. No need to get EVERYTHING out each year!
BUT DID YOU GET THE FLU SHOT!?!?!
I had at least 5 people ask me that after my bad stomach flu. Not the same thing dummies!
I love that new table! Do Khali or Data lay on the bottom of it yet?
Muah ha ha. No.
OMG IDIOTS!!!!! Do people really think that is what the flu shot is for?
Thanks! Khali was sitting on it (I will send a pic). π
Wait, is that really a Scandinavian proverb? I thought it was just some saying the internet came up with! Haha. That is definitely the phrase I live by on rainy and/or cold runs, though.
More important question: were you respiratory system infection sick or GI system infection sick? Because if the answer is GI system infection sick, then everyone asking you if you got the flu shot has officially earned a place on my rapidly growing list of People Who Need to Be Educated About Infectious Diseases. I’ve had to explain the ENORMOUS difference between influenza (which the flu shot aims to prevent, or at least mitigate) and gastroenteritis (aka the “stomach flu,” WHICH IS NOT A DISEASE. Gastroenteritis isn’t a disease, either – it’s a condition caused by any number of different bacteria, viruses, parasites, or even food sensitivities) and the impact the flu shot has on the two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT conditions…namely that the flu shot will probably help you out if you have influenza, and will not do any more to prevent gastroenteritis than a tetanus shot will. Misunderstanding of how all of this works is a gigantic pet peeve of mine. Regardless of what you had, whether or not you got a flu shot, and whether or not a flu shot would’ve done you any good in the first place, I hope you’re feeling better!
I thought so too! But … I guess we have to trust the desktop calendar?!
I was respiratory system sick. Someone else mentioned in the comments that she had the stomach flu and people were asking her about the flu shot. What the huh?! Do people really not understand what the flu shot is supposed to do?! Please continue on your mission to educate!!!!! I really can’t with people most days. And thank you π I am feeling better! (Although it weirds me out how “off course” this cold has been. Mine usually follow very distinct phases and this one is all over the place.)
Do you feel like it’s crass to talk about bonuses because it’s talking about money?
I feel like I’ve asked people if they’ve gotten a flu shot, so your comment gave me pause. I’m not trying to lecture anyone; I’m genuinely curious about why they might be sick. Still, I always like how you point out how your actions might be considered rude or irritating. Thanks!
I can definitely relate to the excitement (er, stress) of trying to fill some space in an unused room. It feels so un-sexy to buy, like, a bench or an end table, but it really does add a lot to a space. I like your new Christmas (and all year!) table.
Yes, exactly. I think it’s mostly crass to talk about money in general. Something strange about me, I suppose!
LOL, you’re welcome! It’s one thing to ask people about it when they aren’t sick, but when you are sick (without the flu) and that question comes up…? Ugh. I also hate it when I have a cold and people tell me it’s allergies. LOL.
It is un-sexy and feels a bit frivolous, but it makes me happy to have it! Thank you π
