When I got up around 4:45 this morning to use the bathroom, Steven was making noises like something was wrong, so I asked him what was going on.
“Why is it this light out so early?!” he whined.
Ha ha.
“Because of the tilt of the earth and how we’re rotating around the sun,” I responded.
“Stupid tilt!” (or was it “effing tilt”?!) he exclaimed, then went back to bed.
Ha ha
I took this (blurry) photo at 6:30 am!
Yeah, the daylight hour shifts really mess with me too. I have a much harder time getting out of bed in the summer when it’s lighter so early. Counterintuitive? Maybe, but for me it makes sense – we stay up much later because it stays lighter so much later – so I have a harder time getting out of bed in the morning. I feel like the sun is mocking me. You should be running. You should be doing things. “But I’m sooooo tired.”
It’s been really bad this year. We’re doing projects most nights and intuitively keep working until it starts to get dark, then it’s “Oh crap, do we still have time for dinner and an episode of Game of Thrones before bed?”
I am wondering how it will be when we’re in Alaska – we are there right after the summer solstice, and I imagine it’ll be odd to have so much daylight (but great for sight seeing… if things stay open).
Anyway. I don’t see us putting up bedroom shades any time soon (or ever), so we’ll just have to deal!
It’s not so bad here in Sc but when I lived in Ireland woah the difference in summer and winter was awful. In winter I’d go to school in the dark and come home in the dark and in summer it felt like it was only dark a few hours a night!
Do you prefer how it is in SC, then?
I got up early today because I was so excited to come see you, Steven, and Data! I’m not sure if I have a harder time waking up when it’s light vs. dark in the morning; it was always the cold winter mornings that made me want to stay in bed in IL, not necessarily the lack of light.
DON’T GO!!!! 🙂
Maybe you just need to sleep on a hard cold slab so you’ll want to get out of bed when it’s cold? 😛 Ha ha (not that it gets that cold in SF!).
I have a much harder time *staying* in bed when it gets light out so early! I have so much trouble sleeping when it’s light outside (this is one of the main reasons why I’m so terrible at napping), so having the sun come up early is wonderful for me – it makes getting up for work a million times easier (though it does make sleeping in on the weekends a million times harder). I have the worst time trying to drag myself out of bed in the winter when it’s dark out!
I think you had mentioned to me before that you have a hard time napping! Have you tried a sleep mask or black out shades (or a wake up light) or anything like that, or do you just try to adjust?
Oh my gosh, my husband would be miserable. He practically needs total blackout conditions to sleep – full on sunlight at 5am would be disaster town 😀
Ha ha! Are you guys in the middle of your time zone so you don’t get the really early mornings? I can’t recall 🙂
oh, i’d never considered that! we are right smack dab in the middle of our time zone. interesting!
