We moved the majority of our belongings in to our rental house this weekend. Only a few things remain at the townhome, and we’ll definitely be able to bring them over before our close date on the 18th. Phew.

We had perfect moving weather for December – sunny and comfortable in jeans and a tee. Think we’ll strike that luck again when we do the second move in (hopefully) late January?
The weekend was such a roller coaster of emotions:
- Guilt/shame – why do I have so much stuff?!
- Anxiety/panic – how am I going to get this all done in time? Can I make this home comfortable for us for two months, and to host two people for the holiday?
- Gratitude/love – it’s amazing how many friends pitched in to help us. We really couldn’t have gotten it done in the timeframe we did without them. It means a lot to me.
I’m happy to report that I’ve stayed calm… even when there was a water leak in the basement of the rental yesterday and I had to move a bunch of boxes and unpack the damaged ones. Ha ha.
Steven, Data and I all slept in the rental for the first time Sunday night. Well, partially slept. We took Data over in the late evening and he was too busy exploring to sleep (and kept me up most of the night). Lesson learned – take him to the house in the morning, for the next move. That way, maybe he’ll be exhausted from checking out the new digs and hopefully sleep through the night.
Data is doing okay. He’s eating and using the litter box (phew) but he’s afraid of the long corridor in the house and spends most of his time in the living area. Hopefully he’ll come around in a week or so. I feel bad we’re doing this to him twice. I feel bad we’re doing this to us twice. But it’ll totally be worth it when we move in to our final, long-term, home.
He’ll be okay – kitties are pretty resilient! 🙂
I guess I should just email you, but I’m curious about why you’re moving into the short-term home before you move to your long-term home. Is the long-term home not ready yet?
Also, I wondered how Data was going to do! Has he always lived in the townhome?
There are a few things going on. First being that we had to sell our townhome to be able to buy a new home. And second is that we are getting an home loan that includes renovations and that takes longer than a conventional loan, so that puts us out a few months 🙂
Data has lived there since we got him! Not sure where he lived when we found him! 😮
Ah! Well, I’m sure it will all be worth it in the end! Plus, I bet when you realize how much stuff you don’t unpack in the few months in between you’ll feel more free to purge it 🙂
Oh yeah, I wanted to ditch it now, but it’s stuff we use every now and then. LOL. And we might need to get serving platters out for the holidays, etc.
You forgot to mention how helpful Data was with the packing! 🙂
Having moved multiple times in the same year before, yeah, it sucks. But it will be so worth it to have a final, long-term home! I have no idea when that’s happening for us, so I think that’s pretty awesome.
Ha ha ha! You’re totally right! I should have posted those pics! You’d think with all the packing he did, he’d been exhausted and slept through the first night there 😉

It is fun and exciting and all, but on the other hand, it’d be cool to be settled before I’m 40 😉
LOL! If you want that! There is no rule that says you have to! But I know that I am really happy to be going to our long-term home!
Glad you got good weather for moving! We are under contract for our condo now and according to the bank on the final rounds of paperwork for our approval- fingers crossed we hear by the end of the year!!!
Yay! I hope so! Is this offer from the first offerer? Seems to be taking awhile. Of course, I was surprised how fast ours moved!
Is your home ready to move in to?
No, our first buyer pulled out on our last review day due to cold feet so we had to list again. But both offers were after 24 hours on the market so we only had to list for two days thank goodness! Hopefully this one sticks!
The new house is ready to move into, we just need to be able to!! Hopefully soon, it’s been six months since we put down our offer!

I literally LOL’d at the “NOPE” picture…poor Data! I feel for all of you – moving is tough, and moving when you know you’re going to do it again soon? Oof!
OH man, moving is one of my very least favorite things. I’m so sorry you (and Data!) have to do it TWICE. But for a good reason!!
We had someone move into our building on Saturday, and when I saw the moving truck I commented that they had really lucked out for a move this time of year. I would not have the confidence to start a lease on Dec. 1, knowing you’d have to move all your stuff right around that time, too! Though, as the person I commented to noted, at least if you move in December, you’ll know right away if the heat works. Glad to hear things went well, though – I think moving is one of life’s most stressful activities, and I can’t fathom dealing with that on top of the usual stress of the holidays. You’re a rockstar!
Ha ha about the heat! And… you potentially won’t overheat, moving boxes? It was nice to not be all sweaty! Of course, we could have been frozen…

Moving twice in the space of a month…def my idea of a nightmare, but if it gets you the home you want in the long term it’ll be worth it!
We are hoping we can save some money to hire movers for the late January move!!! 🙂

I can totally identify with the feeling of guilt at having so much stuff while moving. It’s amazing how even organized, competent people (like yourselves!) still find moving so stressful. It’s just the worst. Glad the worst part is over now!
He totally is! He is running around now like he’s always lived here!!!
Whenever I walk downstairs and see all our boxes and know we still have more at storage I am just like… UGH. And it is so organized! BLAH! I think I am going to go through another major purge when we move in to the final house, even though we already did that once. Ha!
