I had a long “blah blah blah” post all ready for today, but I think I’d rather post something simple.
My grandma got me this skirt* for the holiday. I tried it on in December and it didn’t fit. This morning was the first time I tried it on again.
Encouraged!
Now, I just need to work on these fun tights fitting before it’s too late in the season to wear them.
I try to avoid talking about weight on my blog, because I feel that it triggers comparison, when weight is so personal, and depends a lot on someone’s background/body style.
But, I have been trying to eat healthier and it is encouraging for me to have my clothes fit better. And more importantly, to feel better! So I’ll share that.
If I’m being honest though, my real reason for eating healthier is just to make running easier. That’s my top priority. Not looks, feeling better, clothes fitting… so that stuff is all a bonus.

I quite enjoy reading about Anne‘s success on her blog. She’s a major inspiration for me!
*All I put on my wish list was a “one color, solid print skirt.” She nailed it.
No, I don’t read any weight loss blogs, with the exception of hungryrunnergirl. I think if her more as a running blog. Basically, I love running so that’s what I read most about 😉
Hungry Runner Girl is a weight loss blog? I’m not a frequent reader, but doesn’t she write about eating candy and fro-yo all the time??
Ha ha ha. I love HRG! I have heard she used to have an eating disorder? I love how she is all candy all the time (now, didn’t know her then?) 🙂
And her and her baby are so damn gorgeous. I just like to look at her.
Yeah! Fitting into something that didn’t before before is super. I try to balance the weight loss talk on my blog as well because it just seems so…. I don’t know the word, stereotypical maybe. I don’t want to come across as a whiny weight obsessed person. I hear you about the faster, easier running. I think I have pretty much maxed out any potential speed gains at my current weight.
Yeah, that is just it – I don’t want to be obsessed and writing about it can get me to be that way!
Yay! You look fabulous in that skirt 🙂 that is always a good feeling! I bought an expensive pair of jeans 3 years ago, promptly gained weight and couldn’t wear then. 🙁 then after eating healthy during fox valley training I found I could fit in them again. Now they’re getting snug again- so after reading this post + my food experience in Brasil I’m making an effort to eat healthier. 🙂 I don’t read any weight loss blogs… Hate getting the thoughts in my head about a certain weight when feeling good is the most important thing. (Although it creeps into my mind a lot because I’m 20lbs heavier than my HS weight… I’d still like to cut that # in half…)

Even men enjoy losing weight and feeling better. And it certainly has helped my running. I think its a good upward spiral…run to lose weight-lose weight-run even faster-lose more weight! And I think you are looking at it the right way – not for a specific number but for when your clothes fit better and you feel good and running improves! As for blogs, I don’t follow any weight loss ones but I do like to read the major success stories AOL has – especially at the start of the new year!

I don’t mind weight loss talk, but I don’t search for it. It interests me, but I think I’m worried enough about it in my own head that I don’t look for it – if that makes sense.

I do not read any weight loss blogs. I also stay away from HLB (even before the infamous Marie Claire article [that I totally agreed with, btw]). I don’t have an eating disorder, but to be completely honest, I think reading those types of blogs, would trigger me into it. I have to constantly remind myself that weight is not just a number on a scale. Recently, I started eating WAY better and I have been back into my fitness. I have only “lost” 6 pounds…but I have gained so much more…like muscle and my fitness. How my clothes fit and how I look is so much more important than that number.
With that said…I think there is a difference between weight loss blogs and blogs that talk about weight loss. Does that make sense?

I don’t read weight loss blogs but I agree with onelittlejill that there is a difference between weight loss blogs and blogs that talk about weight loss. I also don’t believe in the numbers on the scale. I think that overall healthiness is most important – how much energy you have, how well your body can handle training, etc. And you’ve got great health!!!

I think weight loss blogs can be triggering if they content is not handled well but I don’t see that being a problem for you if you continue to blog about it.
I don’t mind when weight loss is discussed on blogs but I don’t read any that are weight loss specific. You look great in that skirt. I put on a pair of pants I haven’t worn in a while this morning and was excited that they are a little loose! I’ve been working hard this month and it is showing (at least I can tell). I hope it makes me faster too. 😉

I do talk about weight on my blog because I talk about my journey to self-acceptance and that’s a huge part of it. This year was the first year I didn’t put “lose weight” on my list of year goals. But let’s face it. . . I always want to lose weight. I’d like to feel comfortable in my own body for once in my life. It’s a hard pursuit when you’re also trying to get pregnant (which, if I do, will make losing weight moot). I’m always trying to be healthy, get exercise, eat my fruits and veggies.
Ahh, I didn’t even think about the pregnancy thing, and how that would affect self-acceptance. Do you worry about that?
This is a tricky one… but I’d say the polka dot tights are my favorite. Seriously, I was wishing I had a pair myself this morning! That’s so awesome that your skirt fits now! It’s always such a great feeling when that happens 🙂
Thanks for the mention – it’s always cool for me to hear that my efforts inspire anyone. I definitely didn’t set out to be a weight loss blog (which I think you know), but it was a big part of my life while I was going through it so it was something that I wrote a lot about. Mostly it was for my own purposes, just to remember how hard everything was and how far I’d come, because I’d like to not have to do that again. But I don’t understand the concept of a weight loss blog, because for me at least, losing weight was just something I did for a certain period of time, but I knew the time would come when I wouldn’t need to work on that anymore.
Like a lot of the comments above, I also don’t read weight loss blogs. I do find that a lot of their authors seem to be obsessive about their weight in a not healthy way. I worried about my weight when I was 70+ pounds overweight (obese), but now that I’m at a healthy weight I don’t really care about the number on my scale, and only use it as a guide to make sure I’m on track. I hope to move away from the scale completely someday, but I’m not there yet. I do, however, read a couple blogs written by long-time maintainers who did lose a lot of weight at one time, because that’s what I need more help with.
Um… obviously I have a lot of thoughts about this, and I may write more on my own blog if work slows down today.

I think one of the types of blogs I struggle with are those where they are always talking about how they need to lose weight… all. the. time. Because you are right – in theory you would not have to do it over and over. But that is how it works for me. Which is why I don’t write about it. Ha!
Well, I guess what I meant there is that it’s more along the lines of a lifestyle change, not a diet that you do, lose weight, and then go off of. I mean, it is for me at least. Like for you, you’re running and having awesome workouts just as part of your day to day life, so your clothes fit better and you look great! That sounds so much better to me than dieting, counting calories, obsessing, etc.
Even out of the blogosphere, I seem to have a lot of friends who obsess about their weight like that too, but maybe shouldn’t (I know weight/body image is a completely personal thing, but still, it frustrates me when they weigh like 50 pounds less than me and complain to me about how fat their ass is). I needed to lose weight when I was a high health risk. I could stand to keep losing weight, but at this point I’m happy whether or not that actually happens because I’m healthy and feel great. That seems more important 🙂
And would you believe I’m STILL working? Hope to get some writing done eventually 🙂
Ahh, I do see what you mean. I cannot imagine just doing the restricted diet thing, on it’s own, with out the exercise to help out so I can still enjoy my fave foods!
I would feel that way too, about friends much smaller than me. In fact, I have. It makes me question people’s self confidence when they are that hard on themselves about their weight, but appear to be at a normal one and not at high risk. But who knows, if they aren’t healthy in other ways, they could still be slender and sick on the inside. Well, did THAT make any sense?! I am getting off track again.

Yay! You look great! You’ve been working so hard and it shows! Well I like weight loss blogs. People who talk about working out and struggling is part of what I am going through. I do try to not get into primarily food blogs though. That’s a different type of trigger for me.

I find it inspiring to read about people who are committed to making and sticking to life changes that make them feel good regardless of what that change is. Whether it’s losing weight or exercising more or whatever.
Pssst! I have a secret to getting tights to fit better and not dig in or give you muffin top (or, at least, not quite as bad). It involves scissors…
I’m curious… what’s the secret to better fitting tights? I know to make them footless so they work with my height (since I’m often too tall for a lot of tights), but no muffin top? Please share! 🙂

Congrats to you! I know exactly how you feel. My size 4 jeans are my “measuring device” to know if I’m at ideal weight. Sadly, they’re a little snug now. I’m working on it though. Damn Wisconsin winters make me wanna eat chocolate, drink hot chocolate, bathe in chocolate if I could. It’s beautiful to see how much support you have, though. I like reading about other people’s eating habits and plans to get healthier. It inspires me to make better choices.
I like some weight loss blogs – like Kimberly @ Healthy Strides – when it’s done in a realistic, holistic, healthy way. And it’s a lifestyle change, not a diet, with realistic ups and downs. Then I think it’s inspiring and relatable. But super strict, cut out entire foods, or always talking about it… no thank you. Or equating exercise with being able to eat more/worse.
Opening up about weight loss and weight goals on their blog opens up so many opinions that I get nervous to talk about it. That being said, I think it takes a lot of courage, so bravo.
I like reading about it because it’s inspirational and so much of what they share has gone through my mind at one time or another.
How great is that feeling when something fits? I want to bottle that feeling and drink it for breakfast.

I don’t seek weight loss blogs, I like to read more about running/healthy lifestyles. I like to see a major makeover like any other person, but I relate more to a running/fitness/healthy lifestyle type of blogs….that’s why I like yours so much!
And I couldn’t agree more, I want to get faster and tone up a bit, the numbers on the scale don’t matter, as long as my clothes fit good, and I feel good, all is good!!

I think wanting to lose weight to improve your running is a perfectly fine (and healthy!) reason to lose weight. Especially because it’s not a reason that would lead to extreme weight loss … you need strength to be a good runner.
I don’t read any weight loss blogs. I do get inspired when people talk about their (healthy and understandably necessary) weight loss. But I worry about people who talk about weight loss when they do not need to lose weight. However, I know weight is a very personal thing, so I would never judge someone or criticize their decision. But what I think is really eye-roll worthy is HLB’s who lost their Freshman 15 and somehow think they are now a great role model for healthy living. So you stopped drinking beer and processed crap, and suddenly you are some kind of expert? Please. It’s called being an adult. I realize that sounds really judgy of me, and it probably is judgmental, and I realize I’m coming from a place of “privilege” with this, as someone who has never had serious eating, weight or body image issues.
