Yesterday’s World’s Largest Corn Maze RunΒ is probably the closest I will ever get to completing a “mud” run.Β

We had an 80% chance of rain in our area all day Saturday and Sunday. When the skies cleared up for the race, I was happy we would not have to run in the pouring rain. Then I got a text from my favorite coworker, who was also doing the race – “It’s muddy.”

“I’ll be okay,” I thought, “I have my trail shoes on!”

Ha ha ha.Β

I was “okay.” My trail shoes stayed on for the entire race. And… I would call that a success! Because of the way this race is set up (one person starting every 3 seconds), the corn maze path was really beat up by the time we got to run on it. The mud was really thick and deep. With every step, it felt like my shoe wanted to stay in the ground, not lift up with my leg. It made for an interesting challenge! I thought it was fun! But… I was happy when it was over – the last two years I have run this course it has seemed a bit short of a 5K. This year I was like “Please be short. Please be short. Please be short.” Ha ha.Β

This race is becoming a family tradition though! My brother-in-law has been in town each year this race has been held (2010 and 2011) so we’ve done it each year. And Steven joined us this year (after taking 2011 off to be the official photographer).Β

Β

So I know we will be back next year. Mud or not!

Have you ever run in the mud… on purpose?
