What is your ideal day?
Molly wrote a beautiful ideal day post, and asked me if I wanted to participate in writing my own as part of the Ideal Day Campaign. The idea is that visualizing your ideal day will help you recognize it when you are having it – make it more likely to come true.
I felt a lot of pressure though! How could I imagine what an ideal day is like?! I have never had an ideal day.
Then the more I thought about it, the more I realized I had. My ideal days are when I go to the river with my family/friends and have not a care in the world. So for now, work is left out of my ideal day.
My ideal day:
I wake up early, naturally. I’ve gone to bed early the night before and feel well rested. I have nothing to do – the day is mine, with no obligations. So I start it with a long run. I run all over town and people are friendly when I pass them. The weather is nice and overcast for my run.
After my run I eat a bagel with peanut butter, and despite it still being early in the morning, miraculously, everyone is ready to go to the beach! So we all head out on one of Dad’s boats, which is running perfectly and hasn’t had an issue in years. We find a great spot to park on the beach and set up camp. The clouds have left and the sun is shining!
We spend the day eating, playing games and hanging out. There may even be a nap on the beach involved.
We take the long way back home to enjoy a nice boat ride.
We go back, quickly clean up and make a simple dinner that does not take much time to prepare. We eat dinner and spend the rest of the night playing games and hanging out.
Then repeat the next day!
Your day sounds lovely! My ideal day doesn’t include work either.
I feel like I’ve had a lot of ideal days but they are not the same. The one thing those ideal days have in common are time spent with friends, family, my dogs, and the outdoors.
This sounds amazing! I want to come!!!!
I didn’t know you were a board gamer. We should do a game night sometime.
Thank you so much for playing along. 🙂
Ahh yes, we should! I usually like the “get to know you” type games (Apples to Apples, Loaded Questions) but Steven has been dying to have someone play Settler of Catan with him!
Sounds good, and, sad but true, I would think most people’s ideal day would not include their work. 🙂
That ideal day sounds like fun!!! 🙂
I think my ideal day really changes week to week. Sometimes (like this week) when I had been traveling the last weekend, all i want to do is be home and do things around my town. But then if I have been home for weeks and weekends, I want to go someplace and want to see things. Funny – my ideal day may include my work because I do enjoy it. Its tough and stressful sometimes but some days I really love it. I know that working say 4 hours a day and getting everything done would possibly be part of my ideal weekday! lol
that sounds amazing. I think my perfect day would involve me taking lots of naps. And running with waffles, in a miraculous space anomoly where lack of gravity prevents her from pulling me. And there would be olives. and cheese. And lady gaga.
The end.
I like! And you would wake up feeling refreshed from the naps, not cranky and still tired (like I sometimes do)?!
Sounds like an awesome ideal day! My ideal day is any day in which I can wake up at my own leisure, get in a good run or workout, then spend time enjoying any or all of my personal pursuits (cooking, baking, watching hockey, etc.)
What a good idea. I’ve never really thought about what my ideal day would be, but I think there are a lot of different scenarios. I doubt any of them would include work though, partly because it means I have to get up early, and partly because I work with crazy people. 🙂
That does sound like a lovely day! And it’s even better that you can recall actually having a day like that.
I’m working on my ideal day post but I need to take some pictures first.
Your ideal day sounds awesome. I love that you put in all the concrete points, like having no obligations and having meals that are tasty but easy to prepare. Identifying these elements will probably help you have more ideal days. 🙂
I thought it would be a lot easier to think up my ideal day, but I’m actually kind of stumped. (I can think of superficial things like “I’d know that I was set financially for the rest of my life!”) Hmm, I’ll have to think about this one.
BEST OF LUCK TOMORROW!!!
Ooo! I hope you do tell us what it would be! 🙂
And thank you! 🙂
Well, that sounds like a perfect little day! I’m from the Chicago suburbs (Bloomingdale). Are you referring to the Fox River, perchance? I’ve done a bit of boating on there but not as much as I’d like. The most I do is at my boyfriend’s lakehouse around the horn in southwestern Michigan.
Yay! Another suburban blogger! I actually go back to the Mississippi on the IA side, but I just was at the Fox River today and my friend was telling me about their fun on the river and it sounds very similar to ours on the Mississippi!!!
Sounds like a wonderful day! Good luck on your 50K – I’ll be thinking of you!
That definitely sounds like a great day!
I think that I’ve experienced many “ideal” days – but you are right, none includes work! Mine definitely have some of the same ingredients – fun outdoor activities, good food, time with friends and/or family.
Can’t wait to hear about the 50k – hope that it’s an ideal race for you!
My ideal day (assuming this is a day I don’t have to go into work):
– Wake up early, make coffee and sit outside on the deck and read the newspaper
– check the blogs, go online, make another cup of coffee
– shower and get dressed
– if I’m near an ocean, I take a walk on the sand for a good 3-4 miles
– run all of the errands that I want to do (and can’t because of other daily commitments)
– make a couple of gin and tonics and enjoy them outside – on the deck, at the ocean, under a patio
– BBQ some type of meat, veggies and corn on the cob
– enjoy a comedy TV show
– catch up online with my iPad at night.
It’s rare I get to experience once of these days, but when I do, it’s bliss and ideal.
