Apparently, Data turned in to an interior designer while we were in NYC.

Data seems to be really happy to have us home (I wonder how long that will last). We were in NYC for a long time – we arrived on Friday the 4th and got back Saturday the 12th! The funny thing is, in the beginning, it felt like we had all the time in the world, like it was the longest vacation ever. Then by the end, it felt like the days were just speeding by!
We were able to see and do (and eat!) everything we wanted to, but there is always so much more to do there. I’m already excited about our next (unplanned) trip. I just love visiting NYC. I love wandering around, just stumbling along things to see and do (and eat!*). I feel like there’s something for everyone there!
And what made it even better is that we were staying with our friends Gina and Steve in Astoria (Queens). So after our long days in Manhattan on our feet, we were able to go back to their house and chill.
I love the area of Queens they live in. It totally reminds me of when I lived in Rome – (somewhat) quiet streets with housing, right next to little shops**, selling all sorts of things and services. Lots of people out and about. Tiny little speciality grocery shops. People selling stuff on the streets. It’s a fun place!
Every time I visit NYC I wonder if I would like living there. My company has an office in Manhattan, so it’s a possibility to transfer. Manhattan seems really crowded though. And that is why I like living in the suburbs of Chicago (rather than the city) – because there are not many people, it’s usually quiet, and it’s really green. I don’t mind the crowds when I am in NYC on vacation, but I wonder if it would get to me if I lived there. Probably! Sometimes I am annoyed in Chicago and all I do is work there!
Have you visited any place on vacation and thought “I might like living here?” Where was it?
*We saw so many random vegan and vegetarian restaurants!
**They also have more mainstream stuff, like Starbucks and CVS.
I had the same feeling when visiting Taipei this last weekend! I could definitely imagine myself living there.
By the way, did you try the Mamouns Falafel place this time? Please say yes!
No we didn’t. We got falafel from a street cart on Friday, and Steven tried some from a different street cart when I was running the marathon on Sunday.
san Francisco! I went there for a work conference. It’s just such a pretty, cute, quirky city.
New York is fun to visit but it is definitely too crowded and busy for me to want to live there. Like you, I work in the city but live in the ‘burbs and that suits me just fine (I’m from a small town).
When we went to Hawaii back in 2007 Joey and I agreed that we could live there. I wonder if we’d ever tire of the gorgeous weather or beaches?

My Aunt lives in Astoria and when I was looking to move out of my parents house, I looked there first (although I settled in Brooklyn). I always wanted to live in Manhattan, it was way out of my budget. The three places I would move to in a heartbeat London, Paris and Maui (and Barcelona)
I’d live in San Francisco in a heartbeat if I could afford it.
Having a nice place to crash after a day of sight seeing is so great. Much better than a hotel!
If I could afford Sonoma, CA I would move there.

My husband and I have never been there, but agree that if we ever get to vacation in the Pacific Northwest, we might just stay. Forever.

My husband lived in/around NYC for around 13 years. When we were doing the bicoastal thing, I absolutely LOVED it – well, at first (then it got exhausting). But it was so fun to really feel that I *knew* the city and wasn’t just visiting. I think it would be hard to live there – so expensive, small spaces. At this point, our dogs are really important and I love being a dog owner. That would NOT be great in NYC.
Other people have mentioned San Fran – definitely agree! We often think about Boulder, CO as well.
I really need to get to NY. Someday!
I felt that way about Seattle before I moved here. From my first visit, I could picture myself living here. I also felt that way about San Francisco and Chicago.
What makes you feel that way about Chicago? What do you like about it? I feel like there is something I don’t know 😉

i ADORE nyc… but i don’t want to live there. i grew up an hour away (in NJ) and that was perfect – access to it whenever i wanted, but i feel like i’d get run down/overwhelmed if i had to deal with the bustle of manhattan on a daily basis. and i never want to feel sick of NYC!
I went to NYC ONCE and had a miserable time. 🙁 But I don’t think that was New York’s fault entirely–my travelling companion was part of the issue, and we tried to do entirely too much in too short of a time. I would definitely like to go back and see some of the museums.
I went to Madison, WI for Labor Day and visited friends. I loved it. I want to move there!! (I also love L.A. but there is no way in hell I would ever move to California due to cost of living, bad government, and natural disasters)
I felt the same way when I went to Paris, for the same reason. Miserable trip, miserable friend. I want to go back with someone fun!
The crowds and pushing get to me. Especially when you go on vacation to a much quieter and more polite city like oh say…Dallas.

I really liked Daytona Beach and think I could live there. Also really liked Myrtle Beach (are you getting the theme of where I could live?). And of course, to throw a curveball into the mix… NYC.
As for cities that I’ve visited that I don’t care to live in, Boston is at the top of that list. Loved my visit there, but have no interest in ever living there.
What was it about Boston? I have yet to visit there 🙂
