What is your favorite genre of books to read?
I really seem to like fictional historical books, like Philippa Gregory’s Tudor series. I read the book then kind of get in to learning more about that time period (usually via wikipedia).
I also like travel books – either fiction or non-fiction! I just finished Cycling Home from Siberia, the story of one man’s three year journey on bike from Siberia (through Japan, China, the Phillipines, Australia, India, the Middle East, and Europe) back to London. I loved reading about his inside perspective of each country he went through (country list much longer than my short list above). And his conclusion of how the trip changed him was very interesting too. I definitely recommend this book! Thank you Will (who does not read my blog) for loaning it to me.
I tend to read running books too, but they are kind of slow and dry. I will also read books that friends lend to me, but sometimes it takes me a long time to read them.
And sometimes I like fantasy/sci fi, but it has to be written well. The character’s names can’t be so confusing I can’t remember them.
And that reminds me – I read a book awhile ago that someone loaned to me and was part of a series. It was one of the middle books of the series, but you were supposed to be able to jump right in. It was hard, because there were so many characters (but with normal names) that I could not keep straight. I needed to create a cheat sheet or something!

My dream job (as in I magically have acquired all the skill, knowledge, and experience to perform it brilliantly without any of the work involved, haha) is a medical examiner or a forensic pathologist. I always gravitate towards crime drama or mystery/thrillers. Otherwise it’s paranormal mystery/romance (which makes it sound less trashy 🙂 )…

SAME HERE! I really wanted to be a forensic pathologist/medical examiner but didn’t want to go to medical school 🙂 Now I wish I had.
I love mystery thrillers. I don’t know why, I just love detective stories – maybe thats’ why I am addicted to Law and Order too!
I’ll read anything, but a lot of time it ends up being fiction/chick-lit or something silly like that. One of my favorite authors is Beverly Lewis. She writes Christian fiction and most of her books are full of Amish characters. I really like books that come in a series, though, because it’s like reading one really long book.

Ha, I love Philippa Gregory books! I liked the “Wideacre” series too.
I went through a huge Tudor phase in college. I still like reading about it. I recommend “The six wives of Henry VIII”–it’s a good account of the history and the different wives (obviously).
I will have to check out the Wideacre series. I have been wondering if those were good too. Surprisingly, my favorite book of hers is about a completely fictional character set in that time period (which I think is similar to Wideacre?).
I like funny books, and chick lit. Basically, if Im going to read a book I dont want it to be one that makes me think. I do enough of that as it is. 🙂
I have some chick lit books you might like. Have you read Meg Cabot’s Queen of Babble? I bought it for really cheap and thought it was fun so I checked out the other two books 🙂
I’m a total sucker for murder mysteries, police procedurals, and detective stories. I like characters with a sense of humor and, like Etta, enjoy books that have multiples in a series with the same characters.
I love reading well-written, gritty mysteries with strong female characters like the Stieg Larrson Millenium trilogy and books by Tana French and Sophie Hannah.
Oh gosh—I have a whole book blog based on the books I read (should be around 200 this year)! I love romance, mysteries, urban fantasy, and some Dystopian 🙂
Biographies tend to be my favorite, judging by the number of books I have by Gary Del’ Abate, Sammy Hagar, Artie Lange and many others.
Although a very close second is fiction of a topical nature. Stories that tend to seem true to life. Most books by Nick Hornby are ones I enjoy. While I love to read, I don’t make much time for it anymore. But I do enjoy these types of novels.
I struggle with books sometimes. I like mystery books but don’t read a ton of them. I read most of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich but I’m growing tired of them after the 16 I’ve read. I just read Tina Fey’s book (Bossypants) and loved it. I’m currently reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo because I’ve heard it was really good. I’m not very far into it but it’s starting to capture my interest.
I also read all the Twilight books because I kept hearing so much about them but I didn’t really like them.
