Whoa! Check out these awesome strawberries from our garden!
Ha, I am totally KIDDING! We did not plant strawberries this year. These strawberries are actually from Stade’s Farm – a local farm where you can pick your own produce (and participate in other various events). Steven and I headed out to the farm on Friday with his dad and brother, to pick fresh strawberries to make a pie. It was the last day they were allowing people to pick their own strawberries, but we still found a bunch of good ones.
I saw surprised by how miniature the strawberries were compared to the ones you get in the store. I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but I was.
And they were so sweet and good – perfect for the pie!
I really enjoyed picking them, despite being out in the blazing sun!
And we only used half of what we picked for the pie – time to figure out something else to do with them! Shouldn’t be too hard!
Eat them raw. I am surprised you have enough to even make the pie. Whenever I go strawberry picking, it always seems like I eat two for every one I put in the basket.
Sadly, I always forget when strawberry picking time is in SE Iowa until it’s too late.
We only needed 5 cups for the pie and I think we picked 10 cups? Any good strawberry recipes? Of course now they are sitting in my fridge without power. 🙁

The pie was tasty but we used a store bought graham cracker crust to save time and the pie never set! So tasty, but looked stupid!
I love strawberries! I went twice this year to the local orchard to pick them and we also picked 11 lbs of blueberries! I have my last cup of them here at work with me today. 🙁 The strawberries we picked were definitely smaller than you find at the store, but much more flavorful! Also, the later you pick them in the season, the smaller they seem to be.

How about fresh strawberry smoothies? Or you can make a yummy salad with spinach leaves, strawberries, and balsamic vinaigrette.
I would LOVE to make smoothies, but I have no blender! Is there a way to make them without one?!
Those look amazing! I planted a strawberry plant this summer, but it has yet to produce any type of crop…damn stubborn plant.
Usually the strawberries you can pick yourself are so much better than the ones you buy in the store. I always pick extra and make freezer jam. Enjoy.
I cant wait till the kids are a bit bigger and we can go fruit picking. That looks so fun!

LOVE strawberries! They never last long at our house. I always feel bad for people who are allergic, because they’re SO yummy!

You can always freeze them if you are unsure about the pie. Not as exciting, perhaps, but then you can do whatever you want with them.
Wow. That’s a lot of strawberries. I would be in heaven… even more so is there were an equal number of raspberries.
I had fresh picked strawberries for the first time this week and they were so good! Totally different from the ones you buy in the store and way better. I hope you got to eat them all before having no power messed them up.
