Because I never keep them. Last year’s goal – run 1010 miles. How far did I get?
Total – 843.85 (Off by 166.15)
January – 78 | May – 51.1 | September – 90.2 |
February – 76.15 | June – 1.5 | October – 88 |
March – 91.35 | July – 68.4 | November – 84 |
April – 74.5 | August – 110 | December – 30.65 |
So I won’t make any resolutions/goals this year. But I will say, of all the books I received for the holidays…
I should probably read these two first!
In all honesty, I wish making goals helped me achieve them, but it doesn’t. I’m way too easy going on myself. For example, I wanted to train really hard for a half marathon in March. I think I still want to run it, but will focus on May half marathons for “training hard.”
And I’m this way with life goals too (be nicer, swear less, be less compulsive, more patient, blah blah). Oh well. I figure if I am mostly happy on a daily basis, I shouldn’t be too worried about these goals!
I didn’t keep most of my resolutions either. But running over 800 miles is an amazing accomplishment so I hope you still consider it a success!
However, I love women who swear so I can’t support “swear less” as one of your life goals.
I know a lot of people also don’t make resolutions because they think it’s silly to let some arbitrary calendar date lead us to make all these grandiose changes. But, I’m okay with an annual day to reflect and giving myself something of a “reset” button.
Anyway, if you’re happy day to day–well then, girl, you’ve achieved more than most of the population!
I don’t like to make goals because I’m too hard on myself if I don’t meet them! Sometimes, though, it’s fun just to see how close you can get.
I actually love making goals, but I also make them at different points during the year (start of school, beginning of summer…). I had some vague ‘ideas’ last year for 2010 which I need to revisit, but I won’t be too upset if I see that totally flopped on all of them!
As for training goals – I’ve signed up for two races this year, but I do feel that I have to be kind of careful with training goals because I have such bad luck with my knee. Does that make sense?
As for running 800+ miles – that is pretty freakin’ awesome!
I think making goals throughout the year is a great idea! And I love that you signed up for two races. I totally get the knee thing. I sign up for races but know that I really have no control over anything π
And thanks!
I don’t really set resolutions but I had a mileage goal of 600 for 2010. I succeeded! I haven’t decided if I want to up the ante for 2011 or just try to do the same as last year. We’ll see. I don’t think resolutions need to be set in January. π
Happy New Year
Congrats on reaching 600!!! π
You know, if I were you, I would be counting those miles ran as a goal completed. You got close enough in my opinion.
Thanks Marty π I am not ashamed! Just taking this as another reason not to make goals.
I tend to not make too many resolutions and just try to add goals depending on what happens throughout the year. I really want to read that Racing Weight book! Hope you enjoy it! Happy New year!
So far I really like the book! One of the first chapters explains the different body types for different endurance athletes. Very interesting.
Happy New Year!
Ha, I actually LOVE making goals! I make monthly ones and I made some goals to accomplish in 2011. But I also have to give myself incentive to complete them so this year, I’m finding something I really want to buy and if I complete my monthly goals, I can buy it! (Yes, totally juvenile and something 10-year-olds do but hey, if it works!)
Those racing books look really interesting! You’ll have to let me know how they turn out!!
Ooo, what is it? I think incentives are a good idea!
I will write about the books if they turn out to be good! π
I always have “be nicer” as one of my resolutions, but I fail every year.
I read a lot of the Philippa Gregory novels; I just borrowed “The Red Queen” from a friend.
Will you let me know what you think of “Racing Weight?” I’ve been checking it out.
I really like Philippa Gregory’s Tudor series! I have a few at home and am really excited about the new ones! I like that her books get me interested enough abut history to do some research. Who is “The Red Queen” about?
I will let you know what I think of the book! That is the one I have started to read. So far, interesting, but I have not got to the nutrition part yet! I took a peak in the back where the author’s shows elite athlete’s diets… whoa, they work out A LOT more than me and eat A LOT less!
The Other Queen! Thank you again SO much for the book recs. I immediately went to my library’s website and tried to find them on CD (I love to listen to audio books on my commute….nerdy?). I’ve reserved a few and I’m so excited!
I kind of agree about resolutions. I just have one big one this year, and it has more to do with my attitude about….well, pretty much everything. I’m hoping I won’t fail too badly. π
I cannot wait to hear what you think of the books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Did you post about your resolution? I am SO far behind on reading blogs!
Can’t wait to hear your reviews on them! Especially racint weight!
I am working on my goals for this year right now. I have zero resolutions!
