The Chicago Marathon banners went up a few weeks ago, but my walk down LaSalle Street this morning was the first chance I’ve had to see them.
Last year, seeing the banners as I walked to work brought on feelings of dissappointment and shame. I was supposed to be running the Kansas City Marathon on October 17th, 2009, but couldn’t because of a stress fracture. I was majorly bummed.
However, watching the Chicago Marthon last year was incredibly inspiring. I shortly got back in to training a week later, and signed up for the 2010 Chicago Marathon as soon as I could this February.
Now we’re less than a month away! While my training has been less than stellar, and I know I won’t be running the marathon I have in me (no chance, no way) I am still excited. Seeing the banners this year just ignites that excitement. 10-10-10 will be here before I know it…

The banners were one of the best parts of getting into the city last weekend – they really lit me up from the inside out. I was so excited to be able to SEE the city getting ready!

I don’t think I can today – Jenna has a volleyball game, so I’m stuck showing up early…I’m still trying to formulate a logistical miracle in my head tho! I hate waiting til race day…

YAY! I am so excited for you Kim! I can’t believe both of our marathons are merely a month away. EEEEK! I think seeing all the banners and all the hype would make me even more nervous but excited too!

Yay! I feel excited for you, just looking at these pictures! The first time I really saw them was when I went to CHI for the half marathon. I wish I’d been in your position to see the city get ready for the race!
I’m so excited for you! I can’t wait for the marathon to arrive and even though your training hasn’t been as great as you would prefer, I know you’ll still do well. No matter what your time, it’s still a huge accomplishment. 🙂

I am SO excited for you to run this marathon! I know how it is to train for something and not being able to do it. I’ve trained for 6 marathons, and have only run (ran?) 3 because of injury. But those ones you DO get to run – they make it all worth it! I am so happy for you and can’t wait until 10/10/10!

I wasn’t planning to be in Chicago for marathon weekend, but I might have to change my mind. Just running the other morning and seeing the banners got me all excited, even if just to cheer everyone on!
It’s so fun to watch! We went for the first time last year and were so excited!
